Did you know that the great pianist and creative thinker Glenn Gould was obsessed with a classic work of Japanese literature, “The Three Cornered World”? Gould kept a copy of the book alongside the Bible at his bedside, wrote 37 pages of notes about it, read out a whole chapter of the book on his radio show and read out the entire book to his cousin over the phone. Gould believed the book had something very profound to say about the nature of art. Gould was famous for his early recording of Bach’s “Goldberg Variations”, but after his intense engagement with “The Three Cornered World”, he re-recorded Bach in a completely different way. If you would like to hear the fascinating story of how music, literature and painting from across the world all came together in a most unexpected way, then settle down and listen to this talk at the Daiwa Foundation, London. youtube.com/playlist?list=… via @YouTube
