We’re so excited to share our latest work, marking our second collaboration with Warframe! It’s been such a rewarding experience, and a special shoutout to Rebb and the team for trusting us with this one. The music video follows the intense rivalry of Sirius and Orion, featuring a sick track from Erra. The battle we see is between Orion, in crimson and obsidian, and Sirius, in tsavorite and silver. It’s an epic, shonen-inspired music video, blending anime-style battles with serene moments in space. It’s super FX-heavy (one of our favourite things), and we move fluidly between character and FX animation to bring this dramatic, theatrical clash to life. We wanted each decade to introduce a new ensemble of characters, authentic to their time period. Noodle emerges from the pond and we see her all grown up! After stealing a flute player’s clothes, she hoists up her trousers and walks off with her chin in the air - absolutely feeling herself. This shot was a great opportunity to showcase the 60s style of animation we were referencing. With her clear expression of pride and swagger, her child-like cheeky nature sticks with her even once she’s aged. We adopted a hybrid approach for the background paintings in the film, mixing real watercolour paintings on paper with a digital polish and final paint. The natural behaviour of watercolours on paper, and the way pigments bleed and absorb into the surface of textured paper, is really difficult to replicate digitally. With traditional materials, you get those organic qualities for free, which was perfect for the era we were paying homage to. We're really happy with how it turned out. Admittedly, we didn't use this method for every shot, but it was an interesting experiment and we believe it made a huge difference to the overall look and feel of the film. In this shot the serpent, Viritra, breaks free from its statuesque shell and awakens from its slumber. We wanted to show a beautiful moment where noodle is caught off guard as she is innocently playing in her jungle home. Jamie was keen to avoid this shot feeling anime, we also saw this as an opportunity to emphasise the authenticity of our references from the 60s and 70s era of animation, so we kept the framing clear and clean and limited the camera movement to what would have been done in animated features of the 60s. We loved animating young Noodle for this sequence! Nailing her performance was key. It’s really common for animators to film a real-life performance as a reference to capture the realism and mechanics required. We thought this was especially important when trying to depict Noodle as a young child. The way children carried themselves is very nuanced, and we really wanted to animate her in a believable way. Max, one of the directors, shot reference footage of his son playing on an obstacle course in his garden. His movements were so charming and provided amazing reference for Jamie Merry to base his animation on. We had a great time working on the I’m A Celebrity... South Africa trailer! It’s a family show a lot of us grew up with, and we remember the iconic moments from these celebs’ original seasons. Character design was the most important part of this project. We also wanted fans to point at the screen and shout, “I know who that is!”, so likeness played a key role. At the same time, we focused on creating designs that felt bold, cohesive, and strong in their own right, almost as if they belonged in their own Celebrity Animated Universe. We worked incredibly hard alongside Jamie Hewlett to make it as period-accurate as possible and, like all our projects, it was hand-drawn by an incredible team of artists. We even used a variety of practical effects in the film, which was a lot of fun to do. We had a brilliant time making this film and learnt a huge amount while studying the masters of the 60s and 70s. If you’ve been following the release of The Mountain, you know how special and meaningful this project is. We’re so proud to be a part of it and want to say a massive thank you to Jamie and Eleven Management for trusting us to tell this beautiful story.
