There may be a Spider-Man balloon in this photo, but the *real* superheroes are crew members Avery & Jordan of @psxpress who plucked it out of the Salish Sea earlier today. Balloons are by far the most common type of garbage we remove from local waters. 🚫🎈 📷: Lily Aey, PSE

T-Party in Deception Pass! Yesterday, a large group of Bigg's (mammal-eating) killer whales frolicked for nearly six hours in the swift current underneath Washington's Deception Pass Bridge. What a treat for whale watchers on both land and sea! 📷: Ken Rea, Spirit of Orca

Here comes trouble! This week, T51 "Roswell" & T49A2 "Jude" showed up in the Salish Sea. In 2023, these two spent 6 weeks trapped in a tidal Alaskan lake before rescuers coaxed them out. Let's hope their visit here is less eventful!🤞 📷: Sheila Bolka, Outer Island Excursions

Happy Earth Day! 🌎🌍🌏 To quote the late Dr. Jane Goodall, "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." PWWA members work hard to make a *positive* difference, and we hope you do the same! 📷: Sara Jenkins, @WildWhalesVan

Happy Hump Day! 🐋 One of the first humpbacks returning to the Salish Sea this year was BCX1068 "Split Fluke". Split Fluke is part of the Mexican breeding population. She's given birth to at least 4 calves including her most recent in 2025. 📷: Molly Hackett, @eaglewingtours

What do we love more than chunky orca babies? Chunky AIRBORNE orca babies! Check out these spectacular shots of 2-year-old T46B2B "Takaya" taken a few days ago in Port Susan, Washington by Bart Rulon of @psxpress.

We try not to pick favorites, but there's no denying the celebrity of T063 "Chainsaw"! This big guy and his iconic dorsal fin were seen near French Creek, BC on March 30 as part of a large group of Bigg's (mammal-hunting) killer whales. 📷: Andrina Lindenaar, @OceanEco

This is what we love to see - chunky orca babies! Here's another look at T49A7, the youngest (and SEVENTH!) calf of Bigg's orca T49A "Nan". That orangish hue is normal in young orca calves, although scientists aren't 100% sure of the cause. 📷: Sam Murphy, @sanjuanwhales

There was another encounter with "the" fin whale earlier this week. Here's a look at the world's second longest whale species in front of Washington's third tallest mountain, Mt. Baker (Kulshan). 📷: Sophia Madden, Outer Island Excursions

How stinking cute is this? On the left is T049A Nan's firstborn, T049A1 Noah (born 2001), and on the right is her newest calf, T049A7 (not yet nicknamed), who was first documented earlier this month. 🥹 📷: Tomis Filipovic, @eaglewingtours

SPYHOP! Gray whale season is heating up, and the number of grays in the Salish Sea is now in the double digits. Most are feeding in Washington's Puget Sound, but at least one has been confirmed off Vancouver, BC as well. 📷: Rachel Rodell, @psxpress

Happy Hump Day! 🐋 While most humpbacks are still on the southern breeding grounds, a few have already returned to the Salish Sea. We spotted at least three last week including this mystery lunge-feeder who never showed its tail. 📷: Jeff Friedman and April Ryan, Maya's Legacy

For the last few years, we've shared a "treasure at the end of the rainbow" pic for St. Patrick's Day. We're keeping that tradition alive today with this vibrant rainbow over Bigg's orcas in the Strait of Georgia. Happy St. Patrick's Day! 🍀🌈🐳 📷: Jade Baird, @stevestonwhales
