Canada's film and television production sector generated $10.2 billion in production volume and contributed nearly $12 billion to GDP in the 2024/25 fiscal year while employing over 180,000 people across the country. Those figures were released today in Profile 2025, an annual economic report on the screen-based production industry. This year, Profile is available in a refreshed online format. The CMPA board and staff were on Parliament Hill this week, meeting with parliamentarians from all parties to champion Canada’s vibrant film and television production sector. It was an incredible day of advocacy, ending with a reception celebrating the incredible producers and crews who make the magic happen. From carpenters and electricians to camera operators, hair and makeup artists and more, these are the people behind the 180,000+ jobs created in regions across the country. A big thanks to 1Department for partnering with us to bring the reception to life, and to everyone who joined the event or met with us during the day. Last week, CMPA-BC and @creativebcs hosted @Screen_Producer’s Prime Time delegation in Vancouver. We had such a blast getting to know the delegates, hear about their work, and connect them with BC producers. This Wednesday afternoon at Prime Time, you can learn more about SPA and our other international delegations at our ‘Meet the Delegates’ sessions. The CMPA-BC was excited to once again sponsor the Whistler Film Festival and Content Summit (@whisfilmfest). We brought a delegation of 5 emerging producers, who got the opportunity to sit in on the festival's programming and meet with fellow producers and creatives.   Raila Gutman, our Senior Director of BC & National Member Development, moderated a panel celebrating the third season of Allegiance with Erin Haskett (President & Executive Producer, Lark Productions), Manny Mahal (Writer, Allegiance), and Gosia Kamela (Executive in Charge of Production, Drama, CBC Films).

On Nov 27, the CMPA-BC hosted our annual Industry Holiday Reception. We had a record number of attendees this year from the industry—thanks to our partners Pacific Screenwriting Program and everyone else for coming out in the rain to celebrate the year with us!

On November 20th, the CMPA hosted our first BC based Community Connect in Victoria, which was well attended by over 40 people. Community Connect is a new initiative from the CMPA designed to strengthen connections between producers in regions across the country. It was great to meet everyone in person and have meaningful conversations that will hopefully kick start future collaborations!   There will be more Community Connects in the future.
