🇵🇱🇿🇼 In Lublin, a city in eastern Poland, Zimbabweans have become the third largest foreign-national group behind Ukrainians, and Belarusians. Data from the Central Statistical Office shows that there are already around 1,200 Zimbabweans living in the city. One Zimbabwean resident, Lovemore Moyo Ngundu, was asked by Dziennik Wschodni what he thinks about Robert Mugabe, the country’s former president. Ngundu replied, “He was a very good leader.” Mugabe was responsible for violent land seizures that led to countless white farmers being murdered, while others were forced to flee without their belongings. Afterwards, Zimbabwe’s agricultural industry collapsed, leading to skyrocketing inflation and mass emigration from the country to neighbouring South Africa — and now, it seems, also to Poland. This week, the city of Lublin is hosting an Africa Day Festival to celebrate its growing African population. Lublin’s deputy director for academic affairs and economic promotion celebrated the event, stating: “Students used to come alone… Now, students from places like Africa, India, and Bangladesh come with their families. “They come with their husbands, wives, and children, so it’s no longer just about helping them find a place in a dorm, but also a whole apartment.”
