🇧🇪 Last week, The Duke of Edinburgh visited Belgium. During the visit, His Royal Highness met International Gold Award Students and discussed their experiences of participating in the Award. Later, he viewed the restoration of Hougoumont Gardens at the historic Waterloo Battlefield. The revival will reinstate the site’s orchard, vegetable plots and the French formal garden. At the battlefield, The Duke also visited the Waterloo Museum and paid tribute to the fallen with wreath-laying ceremonies at the British and French monuments. 🪴 There was also the opportunity to plant some ‘Tree of Peace’ seeds, descended from a tree that survived the atomic bomb in 1945.

🎉 Happy Birthday to veteran Geoffrey Roberts, who turned 100 today! Earlier this week, Geoff received an MBE from The Princess Royal for his charity work and services to the commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem. Geoff was part of Operation Market Garden, an Allied military operation carried out during the Second World War. During his time at war, he was sent to a Prisoner of War camp where he was put to work in a coal mine until the war ended. Last year, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, The Princess Royal and Geoff took part in commemorations to remember those who died during the Battle.
