I spent the weekend talking to validators, traders, and other people about the priority fee situation on Hyperliquid. What it really exposed is that toxic flow and how you manage it are some of the biggest factors in whether a perp tech works at scale. That’s why I think Fogo, Ambient perps, and TheHUB matter. The goal is to build a better environment before launch, not patch over issues after the fact.

A trader with a private connection to an exchange has a systematic advantage over one operating from cloud infrastructure: faster (lower jitter and latency), more deterministic execution. In traditional finance, proximity colocation (colo) solved this decades ago. In blockchain and crypto, it remains an open problem.

Cloud environments introduce variable latency, inconsistent GPU scheduling, and opaque resource allocation. If your network depends on provable execution integrity, TheHUB is the answer.

When an exchange runs in the cloud, their traders route orders over a shared infrastructure (by definition). Multi-tenant environments introduce contention for the network resources, while virtualization layers and shared network paths add jitter and reduce determinism. Cloud was built for scale and availability, not for precision trading execution. Running exchanges’ matching engines from dedicated proprietary hardware or leveraging bare metal providers changes everything. In this setup, the market controls its own infrastructure instead of relying on shared setups. One step further, moving that matching engine into a colo facility and allowing traders to connect over a tightly controlled local network with low, stable, and equalized latency creates an execution environment they can model, test, and optimize against production conditions. @TheHUB’s goal is to bring that foundation to crypto: bare metal hardware, equalized networks, execution environments you can model.
