Good choice Peter Wallace possibly the best of Ivan’s 4 disciples that have gone into or about to go into NRL head coaching roles - lucky for us he flew under the radar when other roles came up - Matt Eisenhuth could be an early contender to take over the reigns as his asst coach

@TheRiffMarn I doubt it, it will mostly be guys towards the end of their career chasing one last pay day (Luai 31 / Johnston 33) and guys who aren’t getting regular NRL games at their current clubs looking for a start. The living conditions would deter most players, even with the extra money.

@TheRiffMarn If you remain an Australian tax resident under Australian Taxation Office rules: You must declare your PNG income in Australia. Even though the income is tax free in PNG as an Australian tax resident you will You’re effectively taxed at whichever country has the higher rate.

I think the 600-900k market will get turned upside down by this though as well. This will create an ultra competitive squad from the get go capable of winning a comp very quickly

@TheRiffMarn Yes it’s big for top tear players earring 1.2mil, the guys on 300k, is it worth the roughly $100k extra to live in a compound away from friends and family? I’d also imagine they will get less 3rd party deals over there, so it’s not huge. But without it no one will sign there.

For Luai to earn 1.2m after tax in Australia with top marginal tax rate - needs to earn 2.18m and that does not allow for the extra 2% Medicare levy - massive game changer - what a time to have so many Panther players coming off contract for 2028

All for Luai getting his tax free dollars but from a salary cap perspective this isn’t a level playing field - salaries should be grossed up using Aust tax rates for cap purposes #NRL
