This is exactly what Pokemon is all about!! Collecting for fun. 😊 I remember when I worked at Toys R Us, and used to host their Pokemon events in the 2010s. We didn't have scalpers back then. Just fans and collectors, and I had so much fun giving away promo cards to everyone. 🥹
jaci 🫧@hanbinberry

i went to a pokemon convention last night for the first time and found so many cards i wanted 😭 based on how vendors reacted i guess it must be rare in 2026 that someone just collects for art, i was getting cards i chose for free from some kind sellers too 🥹 it was fun!!

Today is the Met Gala. Here are some things to keep in mind while engaging in Met Gala discourse: — The Met Gala is a fundraising event that supports the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. — The Costume Institute preserves historical garments, curates public exhibitions, and educates people on how clothing reflects and shapes culture. — In a political climate when public arts funding is being limited or contested, private fundraising efforts like this are even more important. — Many organizations hold galas to raise money for their missions. This includes organizations focused on the arts, LGBTQ+ rights, environmental justice, and medical research. The Met is not the only institution that holds galas. — The Met Gala raises money through ticket sales. Major fashion houses such as Gucci often purchase entire tables and invite celebrities to attend the event in their designs. For brands, this functions as a form of marketing, similar to advertising or runway shows. But here, that spending also helps fund a public cultural institution. — Members of the public can later visit the museum and see exhibitions that contextualize fashion as part of cultural history. And their tickets are relatively affordable because they have been subsidized by these fundraisers. — Not all clothing is meant to be practical or "presentable" by conventional standards. Some garments are made as artistic statements. Even if you wouldn’t wear something to the office, you can still appreciate the creativity and technical craft behind it. — Events like this provide work for countless tailors, embroiderers, textile specialists, and artisans. These people often work on other types of cultural productions, such as the costuming for films, theatre, and TV shows. The Met Gala helps sustain these craft industries and thus keeps the production quality high for the areas of culture you care about. — Traditional black tie is never wrong for a gala. In fact, this is how men traditionally dressed for the Met Gala for much of this event's history. Not everyone has the personality to pull off an avant-garde outfit, so they shouldn't be forced into one.

It's May Day, the opening of the month which in medieval literature is the most magical time of the year - a season for love, fairies, and marvellous dreams aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/2014/05/a-may-… 'When merry and hot is the day, And away be winter showers, And every field is full of flowers...'

Banksy didn’t just blind the man with the flag. He gave him the confidence to stride anyway. This isn’t the usual 'patriotism makes you stupid' jab everyone keeps repeating. Look at the suit, the plinth, the imperial corridor of Waterloo Place... this is the modern power suit, the bureaucrat, CEO, politician, stepping off the very pedestal society built for him. The flag doesn’t slow him. It gives him momentum he never questions. Banksy’s point is quieter: we don’t fall because we’re blind. We fall because we’ve convinced ourselves the flag is our eyes. Every empire, every movement, every 'greater cause' started exactly like this with faceless momentum. The sculpture isn’t mocking the marcher. It’s mourning the moment he mistook the wind for wisdom.

🔴 NEW: Banksy has admitted to his latest artwork, a sculpture of a man striding off a plinth with his face smothered by a billowing flag Find out more about the statue here: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/3…

Beltane or Bealtaine was a Celtic/Gaelic festival held on the 1st May to mark the beginning of summer. One of the key parts of the festival (alongside massive bonfires, feasting & making merry with beer 👀) was the exchange of posies to bring good luck. Here's a Beltane posy for you from my garden, including cow parsley, red campion, borage & forget me not (I made the jug in pottery class)🌿

Today’s Supreme Court ruling guts the Voting Rights Act and turns back the clock on the foundational promise of equality and fairness in our election systems. Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act was one of the last remaining federal protections for Black and brown voters against maps deliberately drawn to dilute their political power. That protection has been stripped away. It is an outrage. But it is not a surprise. It is part of an agenda that conservatives set in place decades ago to steal power from everyday people and then cling to that power for generations. The court’s decision is motivated by politics and designed to give an upper hand to Donald Trump’s Republican Party, which faces the threat of losing the upcoming midterm elections. We must pay attention to what happens next. The fight now returns to the states. Legislatures — particularly those in the South — will rush to redraw districts before voting for the midterms begins in just a few months. Already, Louisiana and Florida are planning to redraw their maps, and we should not be surprised if others rapidly follow suit ahead of the midterms and 2028. Their politically-motivated power grab is meant to protect elected Republicans from any consequences for their failure to make groceries, gas, health care, or housing more affordable for you and your family. They want to cheat and choose their voters, instead of the voters deciding who they choose. The mission before us is to restore the power of the people. There is no question our fight became harder today, but I know we are up for the battle.

Justice Kagan: "I dissent. The Voting Rights Act is—or, now more accurately, was—'one of the most consequential, efficacious, and amply justified exercises of federal legislative power in our Nation's history.' It was born of the literal blood of Union soldiers and civil rights marchers. It ushered in awe-inspiring change, bringing this Nation closer to fulfilling the ideals of democracy and racial equality. And it has been repeatedly, and overwhelmingly, reauthorized by the people's representatives in Congress. Only they have the right to say it is no longer needed—not the Members of this Court. I dissent, then, from this latest chapter in the majority's now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act."

Leonardo DiCaprio is urging his 60 million Instagram followers to contact members of the U.S. House of Representatives and urge them to vote “no” on a bill that seeks to dismantle the Endangered Species Act (ESA). “Today, on Earth Day of all days, the U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote to gut the Endangered Species Act (ESA), trading the future of life on Earth for the short-term economic gain of a wealthy few... Today’s bill would devastate the most vulnerable species, which are essential to functioning ecosystems. I urge the House to reject this existential threat to our national security and choose to protect and recover species, and defend the living systems we all depend on. Call your U.S. Representative today to urge them to vote ‘no’ on the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 (H.R. 1897). U.S. Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121.” variety.com/2026/film/news…
