A new exhibition and site specific art responses to the Arab Hall @LeightonHouse_ open today. But the original created by artist Frederic Leighton (1830-1896) following travels in Africa and the Middle East is all we need. Most beautiful room in London.

Pics by Siobhan Doran. In the exhibition there are some great drawings by the architect George Aitchison on how the different collected pieces were assembled together.

Rochetta Mettei, designed by its owner Count Cesare Mattei, otherwise known as a politician and pioneer of the pseudo-science of electro-homeopathy. He completed most works by end of 19th century.

@QuietReckon @pmarca Not sure that’s true - “rumination” simply means “thinking deeply”. It’s even less introspective than “introspection.”

@pmarca I understand the intent here. The problem is introspection is not the right word. I think the word you’re looking for is rumination. And words matter. There’s an argument to be made that every productive act is downstream of introspection.

@lukas_ohl @skulthorp These shitty flats weren’t built to be classless, they weren’t built to foster a community. They were built to house the itinerant, the luckless and the lonely. And I have expended all the time I had set aside for listening to someone moan about having that pointed out to them.

@timabrahams @skulthorp “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” There’s plenty to criticise about these flats, but the criticisms of them sometimes take a strangely class-based flavour (what’s wrong with recruitment agents living there?).

@lukas_ohl @skulthorp “Far nicer than living above a kebab shop in Willesden”. You’ll have to excuse people now and again if they want something good, actually properly good, rather than “not as shit as x”. These flats were thrown up, cost a bomb and leach off services built a century before.

@skulthorp Lots of people would love to live there, if it weren’t for the extortionate service charges. Decent size inside, energy-efficient, right next to the station, with pubs & shops nearby on Old York Road. Far nicer than living above a kebab shop in Willesden.
