Today marks 77 years of the Council of Europe 🎉 Since 1949, it has united 46 countries around human rights, democracy and the rule of law, creating a common legal space for 700+ million people. 77 years of human rights in practice.

Today @SeriesMania in Lille, 9 countries made a strong choice: creativity, storytelling and working together. France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Poland and Portugal signed the @coe Convention on the co-prouction of series. A movement is underway.

The #OHTE Annual Conference 2025 - our best one yet? We think so! Last week’s conference brought together brilliant minds, new ideas, and a shared passion for history teaching. Here’s what made it special: ✅ New formats: We experimented with an OHTE Debate - which received great feedback – and dedicated entire sessions to dialogue with young students. #LearnersFirst 📘 New knowledge: We launched our latest report, “Economic Crises in History Teaching,” and presented a brand-new #dataviz project based on its data. 🎙️ New voices: We heard from outstanding experts across multiple disciplines and enjoyed an inspiring #OHTE Talk by Yascha Mounk. 💭 Key takeaways • Disinformation, misinformation, and manipulation are growing threats to democracy, undermining public trust and distorting truth. • History can be political. In times of AI, hybrid wars, and social networks, it becomes a democratic act - giving citizens the tools to think critically and defend democracy. • Students want to rehumanise history. 5 May 1949 marked the birth of the Council of Europe — and with it, the vision of a new Europe. Not just markets and trade, but peace, dignity and democracy. As we face war and democratic backsliding, Europe must lead again — not with fear, but with courage, values and unity.
