Our analysis suggests tolls will have to TRIPLE at Dartford to pay for the Lower Thames 'smart' motorway Crossing Private finance is not the 'get out of jail free card' that Rachel Reeves was hoping for theguardian.com/world/2025/may…

Egged on by many right-wing think tanks and lobbyists, Labour has attacked nature and moved to strip away environmental protections and to undermine the planning system. This is not what people voted for and it is about time Labour and Keir Starmer realised this!

To pay for this largesse, they have not restored the unlawful funding cuts made by Rishi Sunak to active travel, cancelled the Midland Mainline electrification and failed to take forward the critical Ely and Haughley Rail Junctions (good for removing traffic from our roads).

Well it looks like Labour and the Conservatives will take a drubbing if early results are anything to go by. Reform are the biggest winners so far but it's also been a good night for the Greens and LibDems.

Feargal Sharkey, "Water companies... The fines don't work, it's time we actually started upholding the law, and sending some of these executives and directors to jail" Krishnan Guru-Murthy, "You think we should put them in jail?" Feargal Sharkey, "If we put one water company boss in jail for six weeks the whole industry would transform itself"

Good blog by transport journalist Chris Ames, raising the issue that £3bn of taxpayers' money is being spent on the Lower Thames Crossing without any guarantee that the government will find the private finance to build it transportinsights.blog/2026/05/06/dft…

The real answer that everyone is avoiding is that cars have gotten heavier. This is unsustainable. We need a tax on vehicles by weight so the burden of road repair costs falls more fairly on people who cause the most damage. Some people need a car. No one needs a 2 tonne SUV.

Congratulations to @CommunityPlann1 for their national day of action on 18 April that saw 220 groups take part. This sent a strong message to the government that people care about nature! It's not too late to add your voice vote-for-nature.org
