It was an incredibly busy and challenging night as we served over 400 meals. At one point, we were worried we wouldn’t have enough, with long queues, students, elderly individuals on Zimmer frames, and a huge demand for tents, sleeping bags, and basic essentials like socks, hats, gloves, and scarves.
A special shout-out to Andrea, who came to our rescue with a bag from Penneys full of hats, gloves, and scarves. We went down the line handing them out, and the gratitude on people’s faces was priceless.
By the start of our shift, the van was packed, and we were lucky to have a few leftovers from our Bag for Life campaign. By the end of the evening, everything was gone. It’s a stark reminder of just how much need there is for these basic items.
It’s heartbreaking to realize that people are still out there, searching for essentials just to survive a night on the streets. This is why soup runs are so vital. We couldn’t continue without your ongoing support.
