I’m under no illusion. Race is a construct. In many ways, even “Black American” is a construct. But being a construct does not make something meaningless. Nations are constructs. Money is a construct. Most of the systems that shape our lives are constructs. We only get a brief moment on this earth, and each of us must decide what to do with it. As a Black man, I can think of few purposes more meaningful than contributing to the flourishing of Black Americans. Not because race is sacred, and not because Blackness holds some deeper truth. But because out of all the people who have ever lived, these are the people whose struggles, sacrifices, triumphs, and dreams made my life possible. Knowing these identities are constructed does not lessen their importance to me. If anything, it makes my commitment more deliberate. I am choosing to invest my time, energy, and abilities in a community that helped shape me and whose future is tied to my own. If meaning is something we create, then helping Black Americans become more prosperous, secure, educated, healthy, and self-determined seems as worthy a purpose as any while here. 💯

I never once heard Black American people dont have culture til I got online as a kid. It’s so evident that’s obviously false that it’s not worth arguing. The proof is in the state of the world. Pop culture is inherently Black American culture

This compilation is a message that Black women of the time decided was important enough to put in their last issue. ✍🏽✊🏽🖤. #BlackLove is revolutionary 💯 *this is the first one of these i put together from scratch lol hopefully I did my cousin Harrison justice because he’s the one whom inspired me to start doing these 🫡
