you can’t force unrelatable history onto people who were never working class lesbians in north america. nothing wrong with that. you can choose to cherish history, but do not advocate for some sort of lesbian nationalism or mythology trying to homogenise lesbians.

it’s so interesting when people say “learn your history/return to your roots” as if everyone is expected to know very specific part of lesbian US history and as if those roots are somehow universal. there was no “butchfemme” history in my country to begin with but

вот на самом деле при всех этих разговорах про фем/бутч и их исторические корни я не понимаю каким образом этот термин всё ещё релевантен для современных лесбиянок, которые очевидным образом растут в совершенно другой обстановке. как устанавливается вообще эта преемственность?

@tuasmatas but they're not working class as those people who claimed the terms. so i wonder why they choose to identify that way if it's not simply for aesthetics reasons, since they lack that common socioeconomic experience (but may still face prejudice based on looks and sexuality)

@tuasmatas like for example, the term specifically originated in working class surroundings in the US. there's a lot of middle class people now still identifying with butch / femme labels, and they're also often saying we should remember butchfemme history

@tuasmatas i obviously dont think that geography is the most important! i do agree that masculine lesbians have a very specific experience within the community and with the society they exist in. just think that those experiences are different country to country, time period to time period

@umbertoemo bom, ser butch é político, é identidade e não-conformismo de gênero. acredito que independente da nacionalidade as vivências, experiências e reconhecimento dentro da comunidade seja importante e válido.
entendo sua questão, mas não acho que o peso do local seja superior a tudo.
