Muhammad was in his final year of medical school in Gaza when he was kidnapped and imprisoned by Israeli military while caring for his patients. Two weeks from his final exams, he begged to be released, so he could live his dream of being a surgeon. The Israeli guard then shot off both his thumbs. Did Canada give Israel the bullets? Watch the press conference demanding an end to Canadas support for Israel's ongoing genocide @AnitaAnandMP @MarkJCarney stop weapon transfers now. End diplomatic relations now.

Media must call this what it is: a façade for extrajudicial killings — systematic, state-sanctioned murder by an occupying power. And what “judicial process” are we talking about? A death penalty imposed by military courts with a 99% conviction rate, which Amnesty International describes as notorious for disregarding basic due process. Not justice. Murder. Apartheid in plain sight.

With 'Reading at Supper,' from 1957, we are reminded of the importance Joan Eardley put on finding what she called the story behind human subjects - for her, a truly successful painting had to go deeper than a mere visual record.

MESSAGE I wholeheartedly endorse the powerful appeal for peace made by the Holy Father, Pope Leo, during his Palm Sunday Mass. His call for the laying down of arms and the renunciation of violence resonated profoundly with me, as it speaks to the very essence of what all major religions teach. Indeed, whether we look to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism or any of the world's great spiritual traditions, the message is fundamentally the same: love, compassion, tolerance, and self-discipline. Violence finds no true home in any of these teachings. History has shown us time and again that violence only begets more violence and is never a lasting foundation for peace. An enduring resolution to conflict, including the ones we see in the Middle East or between Russia and Ukraine, must be rooted in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect — approached with the understanding that, at the deepest level, we are all brothers and sisters. I urge for and pray that the violence and conflicts may soon come to an end. DALAI LAMA 31 March 2026

One of my friends, a former prisoner who was released from Israeli prisons, says: Do not be saddened by the ratification of the death penalty I swear to you, death there was a wish repeated in the heart a thousand times a day He speaks to me, choking on pain: We did not fear death we longed for it. It was not the execution that terrified us but what came before it There, where a person’s humanity is taken away, where pain becomes a constant companion, and torture turns into endless daily life, death becomes relief salvation and escape He says: “If I were given the choice between living through that torment again or dying, I would choose death without hesitation.” What kind of reality is this that makes life a burden, and death a wish? And what cruelty is this that drives a person to long for their own end? These are not mere words this is a testimony that captures the magnitude of unbearable pain

Israel must immediately repeal the discriminatory death penalty law passed today by the Knesset, as it contravenes Israel’s obligations under international law. The United Nations opposes the death penalty under all circumstances. The implementation of this new law would violate international law's prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment. Additionally, this law further entrenches Israel’s violation of the prohibition of racial segregation and apartheid as it will exclusively apply to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Israel, who are often convicted after unfair trials. The Geneva Convention says it’s a war crime to target journalists, even if they work for an enemy organisation. It’s also a war crime to target medical workers. After the killing of 3 Lebanese TV journos last week, several medics coming to help them were killed as well.

On Sept. 9, 1969, ~20 Palestinians from Gaza boarded a plane from Israel, believing they were bound for Brazil. They’d signed up through an Israeli travel agency for a work-abroad program promising higher wages than they could find in Gaza. But that’s not what awaited them. 🧵

It's been reported that an Israeli court ruled Walid Ahmad, a Palestinian child who died while detained in an Israeli prison, was 'likely starved'. He was held for six months without charge. Sadly, such ill-treatment is not unusual. It is unconscionable that any child should be treated this way. ❗ Content warning: child sexual violence and abuse Palestinian children are the only children in the world to experience systematic prosecution in military courts. It’s an abusive, inhumane prosecution system, where children are being physically, emotionally and sexually abused, humiliated and starved in Israeli military detention. The UK Government should publicly call for the release of all Palestinian children arbitrarily detained and call for an end to Israeli military authorities arresting, detaining and prosecuting children.

If there is precisely one thing you watch today, make it this. French Senator Claude Malhuret. A microphone. And the most magnificently savage dismantling of the Trump administration ever delivered in a language they almost certainly don’t speak. He covers Iran. He covers corruption. He covers the kind of staggering, industrial-scale incompetence that would get you fired from managing a car park. And he does it with the calm, unhurried certainty of a man who has read every page of the indictment and found it, if anything, worse than expected. France has never pretended to like these people. But this is contempt elevated to an art form. The kind of refined, aristocratic disdain that takes centuries of civilization to produce and approximately ninety seconds to deploy. Malhuret sounds like he is four seconds from the button. Not out of panic. Out of sheer, exhausted disgust. Honestly? Understandable. Watch it. Share it. The adults are speaking.
