Happy #StPatricksDay! 🍀 Today reminds us of being GREEN, like using reusable items instead of single-use. Or even hosting a cleanup this Spring! 🌎 Wishing you an amazing day filled with great luck and good vibes! #GoGreen #EcoFriendly

Curious about what’s ahead for the 2026 Trash Trapping Program? We’re excited to share that even more tools are being added to help keep the Toronto Harbour clean! This year, alongside our existing fleet of Seabins and WasteSharks, @TOPortAuthority is introducing a brand new type of trash trap: the Collec’thor. Three Collec’thors will be deployed at @OHMToronto, where they’ll join the suite of solutions monitored and studied by @UofTTrashTeam researchers along Toronto’s inner harbour. These additions will help us capture even more debris and continue advancing research on effective ways to reduce pollution in our waterways. #TorontoPortAuthority #UniversityofToronto #UofT #TrashTrapping #Environment #Sustainability #TrashCollecting #Toronto #Waterfront #EcoFriendly #TorontoHarbour

Since 2019, the Trash Trapping Program, led by the Toronto Port Authority and the University of Toronto Trash Team, has made remarkable progress in keeping our waterways clean and contributing to important research. This program is a cornerstone of the Toronto Inner Harbour Floatables Strategy, and it uses various methods and technologies including WasteSharks, Seabins, LittaTraps, and manual skimming to capture and remove plastic pollution from the Lake Ontario. Materials collected are counted and characterized by @UofTTrashTeam researchers, informing solutions-based research and helping to combat plastic pollution in waterways. Seabins played a major role in cutting down litter and #plasticpollution in Lake Ontario during the Trash Trapping Program’s field season in 2025. Our network of five Seabins, which includes two along the Toronto Waterfront and three at @OHMToronto, worked around the clock to collect floating debris and were emptied daily by the @UofTTrashTeam. In 2025 alone, Seabins were responsible for 88.7% of all small plastic items diverted through the Trash Trapping Program, removing more than 65,000 pieces of tiny debris. Learn more: bit.ly/46wFzTn
