Big news! 📣 Pleasure Beach Resort has just announced that their new ride, Aviktas, will open on May 21! Reaching a staggering 138ft at full swing, the 40-seater pendulum ride will arc 120 degrees over the Blackpool coastline, making it the tallest ride of its kind in the UK. We can’t wait for this!

Blackpool’s award-winning Lightpool Festival will return on the 21-31 October with spectacular light installations, 3D projection shows and live performances ✨ It’s an extra special year as the festival will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. More details coming soon.

Blackpool is officially in the running to become the UK City of Culture 2029 👏 We’ve just been longlisted by the government which means we’re one step closer to hosting a massive, year-long celebration. If we’re successful, it would bring £10m into the town to create incredible arts and culture events for everyone to enjoy, while boosting tourism and creating new jobs.

Showtown recently interviewed our wonderful Visitor Information Assistant, Sandy Griffiths, who has had an interesting career to say the least! Her stage career began at age 12 with The Blackpool Tower Children’s Ballet and she went on to become a Tiller Girl at the Opera House and a performer alongside Charlie Cairoli. In her 30s, she joined the famous Roly Polys, the dance troupe of the late comedian Les Dawson. What originally started out as six weeks, turned into 16 years and even saw her dance on stage at the Royal Variety Show in 1987. After 22 years of sharing her knowledge in our Tourist Information Centre, Sandy remains a true local legend and we absolutely love her! ❤️ 🔗 Here’s a snippet and you can watch the full interview here: bit.ly/sandyshowtown

This year’s Blackpool Air Show will take place on Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 August 2026. The free two-day event will feature a whole host of incredible flying machines and showcase the very best in British aviation. More details will be announced in due course.
