Glad Sonam Wangchuk graciously accepted our ( MPs ) request ( given on July 22 ) to end the fast. He waited for his assurances fr the Govt - which the Govt was compelled to come forward with. With me are MPs Sagarika Ghose & John Brittas. #SonamWangchuk

Glad #SonamWangchuk ends his indefinite fast late last night ; after prolonged negotiations and govt assurance that it would not harm or victimise the students by any threatened actions. I am sure the movement for reforms in Education & examination system will continue.

Message fr #JantarMantar These students are not protestors. They are PROTECTORS.
Protectors of the dream our founding fathers fought for.
Protectors of the freedom to Q, choose, deny.
Protectors of the love and care that holds this country together 1/2

@Jairam_Ramesh @RahulGandhi Nadda ji instead of taking a PC on Rahul Gandhi ji , please address the concerns of @Wangchuk66 abt the safety of our young protesters. Not a word abt the brutality on the students on July 20. Students are demanding accountability & education reforms. Is it too much to expect !!

The Union Health Minister and former BJP President JP Nadda’s late evening press conference to counter
@RahulGandhi’s sharp and pointed exposure of the Modi Government is a sure sign of the the regime’s increasing desperation.
The whole press conference was an unending series of ‘what-aboutery’. Mr. Nadda must go beyond such juvenile finger-pointing to first acknowledge the uniquely spectacular nature of the Mantri Pradhan’s and Pradhan Mantri’s failures. Aap chronology samajhiye -
* The NTA was specifically set up by the Modi Government to conduct examinations. The Modi Government intentionally created a centralized system of examinations administered by the NTA and forced universities and States to adopt it. An existing system was destroyed so that the NTA can be born.
* The NTA then consistently proved itself to be fully compromised and wholly inadequate to the task. Since its inception, it has presided over at least 9 instances of paper leaks - including in 2024 when the NTA was forced to cancel a whole host of examinations due to irregularities.
* After the spectacular failure of 2024, the Mantri Pradhan promised that improvements would be made in the NTA. The K Radhakrishnan Committee report was set up to suggest reforms to the NTA and it put forth 101 recommendations.
* Rather than seriously implementing reforms, the Mantri Pradhan continued to dawdle, demonstrating incredible complacency. The post of Director General - the critical chief executive position in the NTA - was held as an additional charge by officers for the entire period between the 2024 paper leak and the 2026 paper leak.
* Predictably, the NTA presided over yet another paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examinations and was forced to cancel the exam post-facto. Even at this point, the NTA and the Department of Higher Education shamelessly claimed to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education that there had been no paper leak. The optics mattered more to Mantri Pradhan than the truth.
* Meanwhile, the ever-arrogant Mantri Pradhan showed his utter contempt for Parliament and wise counsel by dismissing the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education’s recommendations to strengthen the NTA, simply because the Committee had members of the Opposition in it.
* Even after the nationwide outrage, the NTA continued to preside over a reported paper leak in the UGC-NET Sociology 2026 exam and irregularities in the UGC-NET English 2026 exam.
* When students took to the streets to protest the paper leaks and the Modi Government’s education policies, the Pradhan Mantri and his enforcer unleashed unprecedented brutality on the student protestors - using lathicharges, water cannons, tear gas, and reportedly even pellet guns and shock batons.
The NEET-UG 2026 paper leak is merely a symptom. The malaise is much deeper. The anger of our students is directed to the the Mantri Pradhan’s general incompetence, the Modi Government’s abysmal education policies, and the Pradhan Mantri’s arrogance.

TMC leader Sagarika Ghose (@sagarikaghose) posts, "Today Shri @VTankha, Shri @JohnBrittas and myself Sagarika Ghose, on behalf of the undersigned MPs and Floor Leaders met Shri @Wangchuk66 ji and Smt @GitanjaliAngmo ji at Medanta hospital. While wholeheartedly supporting the cause of the students, we fervently urged Sonam Wangchuk ji to give up his fast in the interests of the nation and the students ."

Am concerned abt @Wangchuk66 health condition. @DrJitendraSingh & @JPNadda ji went to meet Sonam at @medanta 20 days too late. Sonam continues his fast. July 20 saw the worst Delhi Police’s brutality on students. We must intervene !! Because of Govt country cannot lose Sonam
English

In a democracy we can’t have a government which doesn’t feel accountability. Who is responsible for brutality on peaceful #NEET protesters, unarmed & defenceless students in #JantarMantar & around #Delhi on July 20 !! Congress leadership came out strongly for students today.
Rahul Gandhi@RahulGandhi
We have marched to PM Modi’s house to demand answers from him for the brutalities against young students yesterday. The Government doesn’t want to take any accountability or does it want to have a debate on it in Parliament. PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India’s youth.

How ridiculous. The Medanta team has reached Safdarjung Hospital, but the hospital authorities are not permitting @Wangchuk66 to leave because they don’t a copy of High Court order. The order was announced in open court. This is insulting Delhi High Court. @DelhiPolice
English

I welcome the decision of Delhi High to permit shifting of @Wangchuk66 to @medanta Hospital. The SG also gave Govt’s No objection. We request Sonam to give up his indefinite fast & so that he recover soon. The country needs his ideas & services. #NEET

#SonamWangchuk

#NEET

It’s cumulative responsibility of the Parl , Govt & jud not excluded to ensure @Wangchuk66 ends his indefinite fast. If any harm descends on him it will be our cumulative failure. At least I would hate to continue as a Member of Parliament if that happens #SonamWangchu #NEET
