Since losing his primary *three* days ago:
- Cassidy stated he'd vote against the $1B ballroom project
-defended his vote to convict Trump back in 2021
-signaled he'd look to hold RFK Jr. "accountable"
-called Paxton a "felon" after Trump endorsed him
- and has now voted in support of Dems' war powers resolution on Iran
The senator is entering his "Cassidy Unchained" era

Trump's ballroom project is in serious trouble if it passes muster with the parliamentarian.
-Murkowski: $1B in funds is not going to fly. If there are legitimate, discrete pieces that are tied to the security, I think there is room for discussion. ... Nothing wrong with that, but does that need to be in a fast-track reconciliation [bill]?"

Paxton could face a generational fundraising gap if he's the nominee.
Total fundraising so far:
Talarico: $40 million
Paxton: $7.6 million
Beto only outraised Cruz by a little less than 2-1 in 2018. Unless Paxton turns on the jets, he's going to need significant outside help.

Senate Rs were hoping the endorsement would go to Cornyn.
Murkowski casted doubt that Rs can keep Texas with Trump endorsing Paxton
Hoeven: “I strongly support Sen. Cornyn.”
Graham: Trump is “looking backward now, he’s looking at the people that were not there when he needed them the most, and he has a right to.”
Says he believes that Rs can keep Texas but says the “pathway for Paxton is there, but it's more uphill, and it will cost more.”

Paul notes that Dems could've gone to the Parliamentarian to get their amendments vetted beforehand: "This markup for this bill has been known for two weeks. All the Democrats could have taken your amendments to the Parliamentarian to get them approved, to make them pertinent to this bill. None of them have been approved. The only thing that's been approved by the Parliamentarian is the underlying text of the amendment we're voting on today."

HSGAC 's mark-up for the $72B bill funding ICE and CBP has been underway for more than a half hour. Dems have been offering a flurry of amendments, including ones prohibiting the federal government from creating databases to surveil Americans, requiring judicial warrants, ensuring those in ICE/CBP's custody have access to health care, etc.
HSGAC's Chair Rand Paul has been successfully tabling the amendments through a party-line vote, stating he's been urged by the Budget Committee that the amendments does not comply w/ the rules of reconciliation and threaten the privilege of the bill on the floor.
Dems push back, stating the Byrd rule does not apply to the mark-up process and the amendments have not been adjudicated by the Senate parliamentarian
