@Doki_R6 League minimum would help stop bullshit orgs scamming players like Bleed or MRG did. Although I think in the current state of siege esports it would be something really hard to force maybe if gambling sponsors ever become a thing like joker mentioned.

I’m going to comment a little on this with my experience through the years. Now firstly I understand I’m in a very privileged and unique position, G2 is a top esports org and treat/accommodate their players very well, and I’m aware this isn’t the case for the majority of siege players/orgs. I think if you hope to just do bare minimum work and live of your siege salary, you’re not going to make it anywhere worth while. When you say “my org isn’t paying me enough only 2.5k a month” it’s a bit selfish imo. If you are a middle of the pack siege team that 2.5k a month can double to 5k a month with yearly prizes from tournaments combined - this is for a middle of the pack team. Siege prize pools are very very good, compared to a lot of other esports. But you see more of these players cry about bad conditions instead of putting in extra effort. When I started my career first year or so I wasn’t making much from salary, but with proven effort and results that grew as the org grew trust in you - this will be the case for more teams and people will refuse to believe it. Other sources of income should also be a factor for players in this position. Streaming, content creation, outsourced work. They all add income, even if it’s small - or builds up and grows. Again, I know I’m in a different position, one I’m very grateful for. Aware not every siege player can just start a stream and start earning money. Attitude is the main factor tho, situations may be bad, but they’re a start. Why should an org pick someone up and pay them let’s say $5000 a month, when they have shit results, no brand, no real WORTH. Think about it.

The trajectory that Siege esports has right now is very, very concerning. About 90% of roster moves this transfer window happened because orgs wanted to save money or couldn’t pay their players. We are now living in a world where about half of NA/EU players compete for 2.5k or less, with even partner teams paying under 1.5k. Affiliate teams don’t even get close, and I don’t even want to start about APAC… The only region that is “growing” money-wise is BR from what I’ve heard. China is also NOT the savior - the orgs there are very hesitant to spend money. But this is a huge problem. You can maybe commit to doing esports for 1–1.5k a month (after taxes) when you are 18–20, but it’s just not a smart choice when you get older and want an adult lifestyle. In Germany, a 35h/week minimum wage job will get you ~1.4k a month after taxes… so it’s crazy that esports pays less for double the work right now. Yes, we all love to compete and it’s our goal to make it to the top, but you can’t get professional players and environments for this money. I don’t know what the solution is - more oil money, allowing gambling sponsors, etc. - but it’s very sad to see, and I bet we will see more and more pros retiring after their contracts run out.
