Microsoft is promising to make context menus, folder navigation, file transfers, and search, faster on Windows 11. As part of a sweeping set of improvements coming to the platform this year, Microsoft says it's working on major upgrades to File Explorer that should result in the app becoming much faster to use. Context menus will open faster, and file transfers will complete quicker. Searching for files in File Explorer will be faster too, and clicking through multiple folders shouldn't feel slow anymore. It's all great news, and we can't wait to see it in action. windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

Is your old monitor holding PC gaming back? 🖥️ High-end specs don’t mean much if your display can’t keep up with the frames. This is a fantastic "sweet spot" upgrade: 1440p resolution at 240Hz and thanks to this discount, a truly fantastic price. We rated it highly when we reviewed it, and whatever you're playing, this is a fantastic budget-friendly upgrade. 👇

Microsoft confirms that it WILL let users postpone updates indefinitely on Windows 11. For over a decade, Windows has been heavy handed about ensuring users install updates as soon as possible, but those days are coming to an end. Later this year, Windows 11 users will have the option to pause updates for as long as they like. Currently, Windows 11 will only let you pause updates for a maximum of 5 weeks, at which point it will force you to install the latest available updates. This will no longer be the case soon, with users being allowed to choose to pause an update forever if they wish. windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

BREAKING: Microsoft just announced several major changes to Windows 11 in an effort to win back user trust and evolve the platform into something people will actually want to use over macOS and Linux! It's a huge announcement that addresses Windows 11's biggest problems today, tackling core fundamental issues such as unreliable system performance, UX consistency, AI bloat and general enshittification. Microsoft has confirmed that this year, it WILL be reducing where ads and Copilot appear throughout the system, including in Start, Widgets, Notepad, Photos, and more! File Explorer and Windows Search will be upgraded with improved performance and capabilities that make finding apps and files much faster and easier. The OS will become lighter with less RAM and system utilization at idle, making it smoother to run on low end hardware with limited memory. These improvements will also benefit high-end PCs too. Windows Update will be improved with more granular controls and the ability to postpone updates for longer, along with reducing how often the OS needs to restart to install an update. Microsoft has also confirmed that it's bringing back fan favourite features such as the ability to move the Taskbar! It's also working to update more areas of the system shell with modern WinUI designs, which should make Windows 11 feel more coherent and complete. There's much more in the announcement, and it honestly all sounds too good to be true. Microsoft really is listening to feedback, and is eager to make Windows the BEST desktop OS on the market. More details including when these changes will arrive in the link! windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

It looks like people internally at Microsoft are fighting to drop Windows 11's forced Microsoft account requirement during setup. Microsoft's big sweeping set of improvements coming soon to Windows 11 don't address its controversial Microsoft account requirements, but that might soon change. windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

BREAKING NEWS: Microsoft just confirmed MAJOR plans that will address Windows 11's biggest problems, with the company moving to reduce ads and AI across the system, improve system performance, and restoring the ability to move the Taskbar! Microsoft says that over the course of this year, users will see changes made to the OS that are designed to make Windows 11 more user friendly and faster to use. It's working to reduce overall system load so that the OS runs better on limited memory, updating more system interfaces with WinUI, and giving users more control over Windows Update, including letting users postpone updates for longer. The company also says it's moving to reduce ads and Copilot in areas like Start, Notepad, Photos, Widgets, and more, after listening to feedback from users. All of these changes are designed to rebuilt trust with users and position Windows as a platform that people want to use over macOS and Linux. Improvements to WSL, File Explorer, Windows Search, and much more also on the way. All the details are in the link in the post below!

This wasn't on our 2026 bingo card for sure. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you know, from 2019, has completely obliterated its previous player counts on Steam. Granted, it didn't release on Steam until 2023, but now it's on par with the current Call of Duty launcher (for Black Ops 7 and Warzone). The reason? The Steam Spring Sale has dropped its price by 90%.

Apple's cheap MacBook Neo can run basic Windows 11 apps with better single-core performance in a virtual machine than a more expensive Dell laptop, but it struggles with much more than basic productivity. (Those same kinds of productivity and web-based apps would be available natively on macOS)🤔 windowscentral.com/hardware/apple…
