Heather-lined fairways remain a key feature of our course. Our greenstaff have been hard at work this winter focusing on vital heather regeneration, a notoriously demanding task. Bringing this heather back to life requires both patience and meticulous agronomy.

A comparison of our 14th green and clubhouse, largely unchanged over a hundred years apart. Also unchanged is the two-ball golf, camaraderie and club ethos, ensuring our heritage is not just a memory, but something we are constantly living within.

Looking down the photogenic 14th, our first par 5. There's an interesting tension at this tee: the veranda and a welcome drink beckon from one direction, while a sea of heather, bunkers and our clubhouse roof lurk in quite another, waiting to catch the overzealous shot.

Happy 149th birthday to Tom Simpson, one of golf's greatest architects and a member of Woking. An afternoon studying our course sealed his decision to pursue architecture. Without Woking, the courses of Cruden Bay, Morfontaine and many others might look very different today.

As spring approaches, we look forward to seeing our course look better than ever thanks to the winter work David and his team have put in clearing trees and planting heather.

Our 4th hole tells a remarkable story. One controversial overnight change reshaped golf course design globally, ending penal architecture and ushering in the strategic design philosophy we still celebrate today.

The President's Putter kicks off this week, and The Oxford & Cambridge Golfing Society has strong links to our club, evidenced by our Captain's board which boasts John Low, Stuart Paton and Bernhard Darwin. Best of luck to all society members at Rye tomorrow.

David and his team have been hard at work this winter enhancing the course, including behind the 5th green, where heather regeneration remains a priority. In years to come, the bank will continue to fill out with heather, creating an increasingly striking backdrop to this par 4.

The roof may be out of bounds these days, but the terrace certainly isn’t, and there’s no relief if you end up there. Having your lunch interrupted by a putt or chip off the concrete is a quirk we never tire of.

With the Winter Olympics underway, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit the story behind the curling stones in our clubhouse, and the old curling rink that once sat on the course.

With pace of play front of most members' minds, the lower tees of the 6th are a popular choice. But for those who make the walk back to the top tees, the view is well worth the sixty-second detour.

Our newest hole on the oldest heathland course in Surrey. The 16th. Despite being the first major change to the course design in over 50 years, the green sits comfortably within the character of the rest of the course.
