For Jane Goodall's birthday, we're celebrating #GoodAllDay, a global movement inspired by her name and her ongoing commitment to turning hope into action.
The idea is simple: do good, all day. Whether it’s planting a tree, reducing waste, helping a neighbor, or standing up for wildlife, every action—no matter how big or small—matters. And by joining #GoodAllDay, you’re not just celebrating her—you’re helping build a better, more hopeful world just as Jane continues to do.

"When gender equality is embedded in ocean conservation, outcomes improve for both people and planet."
Discover how their "Gender Action Plan" program is transforming ocean conservation in the Western Indian Ocean and beyond by putting gender equality at its heart.

March's Action of the Month focuses on gender equity in the conservation space. Which is why we had to repost this by @unoceandecade.
The Empowering Women for the #OceanDecade Programme, led by World Maritime University @wmuhq, aims to promote gender equality in the conduct of ocean science and in science-dependent governance systems. Through five hosted projects, the Programme aims to build a more inclusive and sustainable future for the ocean:
🔵 Globally, 'Empowering Women in Hydrography' led by @ihohydrography aims to enable more women to participate equitably in the field of hydrography and to reach more leadership roles.
🔵 In Togo, the project 'Boosting Women’s access to Maritime Training' by the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Coastal Protection promotes gender equality and enhance opportunities for women in the maritime sector.
🔵 In the Maldives and Indonesia, @empower_ocean by @womeninoceanscience creates opportunities for local women from coral reef communities to be involved in ocean guardianship, through high-impact dive and marine conservation training.
🔵 In Brazil, 'Women in Blue' by the @unifespoficial fosters women’s empowerment and gender equality in science, fisheries and politics.
🔵 In Portugal, 'Women from the Sea' by @help_images harnesses storytelling to amplify the voices of women and inspire girls to pursue an ocean career.
Let’s take meaningful steps to create a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to lead, innovate, and shape the future of the ocean!

Sound travels faster and farther in water than in air. Over evolutionary time, many marine organisms have come to rely on sound production, transmission, and reception for key aspects of their lives. These important behaviors are threatened by an increasing cacophony in the marine environment as human-produced sounds have become louder and more prevalent.
In 2021, researchers reviewed the importance of biologically produced sounds and the ways in which anthropogenically produced sounds are affecting the marine soundscape. The illustrations from top to bottom show ocean soundscapes from before the industrial revolution that were largely composed of sounds from geological (geophony) and biological sources (biophony), with minor contributions from human sources (anthrophony), to the present Anthropocene oceans, where anthropogenic noise and reduced biophony owing to the depleted abundance of marine animals and healthy habitats have led to impacts on marine animals.
These impacts range from behavioral and physiological to, in extreme cases, death. As human activities in the ocean continue to increase, management options need to be deployed to prevent these impacts from growing under a “business-as-usual” scenario and instead lead to well-managed soundscapes in a future, healthy ocean.

This was one of those moments where everything slows down. A fever of pink whiprays moving across the reef in the Maldives.I sank into their path and let them pass overhead staying calm as this living storm surrounded me.
Stingrays often carry a bad reputation - but in that moment they were nothing but grace. Silent. Synchronised. Powerful.
To have this image recognised in a competition I’ve admired for years genuinely means so much. Proof that patience, trust in the moment, and a little bit of courage can create something special.

Decades ago, following severe population declines of the Atlantic goliath grouper, its fishing in Florida, where they aggregate to reproduce, got banned. Now, there are new plans to allow its fishing and, hopefully, such decisions will not put the groupers’ future in danger once again.
