May is AANHPI Heritage Month—honoring the cultures, contributions, and resilience of communities that strengthen the fabric of California.
AANHPI history is vibrant and somber: from Chinese laborers who gave their lives building the transcontinental railroad, to Filipino farmworkers organizing for equality, and Japanese Americans unjustly incarcerated during WWII; from Pacific Islanders serving at some of the highest rates in our Armed Forces, to Vietnamese refugees and Hmong families who built thriving communities here in California.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of representing and working alongside AANHPI communities—experiences that have reinforced the importance of ensuring every Californian is protected.
Happy AANHPI Heritage Month.
