The officer took his favorite object for a beautiful reason. A police officer replaced a person's toy with a real furry friend to make them genuinely happy. True kindness can create pure joy.

What is clear to me: the human need to learn, explore, discover, and reach a better understanding of the world around us as well as ourselves. These needs still exist in the middle of my seventh decade.

In the hierarchy of needs, these are important regardless of our age or level of experience: the thirst for knowledge, the desire for deeper understanding, and the continual search for wisdom and meaning.

A long-time ago Frank Lloyd Wright offered a similar insight that certainly applies to coaching: "That thing always happens that you really believe in; and that belief in a thing is what makes it happen."

Over my coaching career I've found this recent Don Greene insight accurate: "Your words and visual projections define your own limits and endless possibilities. Whether you think you can or cannot, you are right. What you think is what you will get in the end."

@mindsetmachine Whenever I had a sprinter run a really fast hundred, I liked putting my palm down on the track and then pulling it away quickly as if I had burned my hand. That was my way of acknowledging a really impressive performance.
