@AVARY I’d see Escape From L.A. again. It was goofy but fun.
Ghosts of Mars was like a bad fever dream. I’d probably pay to not see it.

@AVARY Escape from LA doesn't fall apart as quickly. There's hope at every turn that this could all be ok. I've also referenced the free throw scene as a serious wtf moment for years now, laugh every time I watch it.

Escape from LA, easily! I've never understood why people took that film so seriously. It was obvious to me even as a 16 year old when I went to see it, that it was meant to be a satire. John was having a ball poking fun at both LA phonies and unnecessary sequels. Also, it has one of the most magnificently nihilistic finales I've ever seen. I adored it then and still do! Fuck all of the haters!

@AVARY Escape from L.A. is criminally hated and I'm tired of keeping quiet about it.
English

@AVARY Escape from LA was initially disappointing - especially when compared to Escape from NY, but in reality it was a comedy/satire, so should not be compared to NY. It was its own thing, and got better over time for me.
English

@AVARY The ending of Escape From LA is Carpenter-Russell’s libertarian political statement after a fun and funny satire of the end of civilization
It’s also better than Escape From NY
English

@AVARY This is a tough one because I really like them both, and consider them underrated...
Going with Ghosts of Mars because of the performances by Ice Cube, and a young Jason Statham.

I just saw Escape From LA for the first time. I always heard about how bad it was so I never watched it. But movies have gotten so bad today that LA actually has a fun charm to it.
Movies today just don't feel like movies anymore, and I don't think my generation is even equipped to try and make them. But Escape from LA feels like a real movie, even if it's a silly one.
Is Ghosts of Mars enjoyable? I've never seen it for the same reason. It sounds a lot like Doom.
English

@AVARY EFLA, but the bar is low here. Ghost From Mars feels like one of those films the budget ran out and they just shut down the cameras one day
English

@AVARY Escape from LA is better. Funnier writing, better editing, plus Kurt Russell
English

@AVARY Wild that I only just watched Prince Of Darkness like 5yrs ago and now it's one of my favorite Carpenter films.
English

@AVARY Escape from LA is not only Carpenters worst film its one of the worst films ever made
English

they're his two worst, by far.
if i had to watch one again, i'd rather it be Ghosts, just because it doesn't make me depressed by comparing it to a way better earlier film with the same characters.
IMO once he switched to working with Gary B. Kibbe as his cinematographer, all his projects all lost a few points that they shouldn't have. His camera direction and lighting is very sterile and bland. The erlier DPs he worked with were MUCH more creative with lenses, and light/shadow. just more artful in general and helped add shine to enhance everything Carpenter did, where the other dulled it all.
English

@AVARY I chose ghost to Mars because it stands alone against the original Escape masterpiece.
I have no reference with Ghost of Mars and frankly I really enjoy it.
English

@AVARY Big Trouble in Little China is the only one I care about. Draw.

@AVARY Ghosts of Mars is better only because it has a high speed train on Mars attacked by possessed miners.
English

@AVARY They are both on the same level IMO but if pressed for a reason why Escape from L.A. is the better film, it is because Snake Plissken is the more interesting lead and we've already shared the history of Escape from New York with him. Both are 7/10 movies IMO.
English

@AVARY Escape from LA sucked. So disappointing. Ghosts of Mars at least was an original idea and didn’t ruin an expectation of a decent sequel. Plus, Natasha Henstridge.
English

@AVARY I love Ghosts, but Escape from L.A. is the more rewatchable.
English

@AVARY I liked Escape from LA. I haven’t seen it since I was a boy, but I liked it then.
