The 'fossil fuel fragility' is no longer a theory. It’s a $200B reality check. While the US burns through emergency funds to secure oil chokepoints, Emerging Asia is effectively de-risking its entire GDP. Every 1% increase in EV share in Vietnam or Thailand is a 1% decrease in their vulnerability to the next $11B/day conflict. The geography of energy is being rewritten in real-time.

@JessePeltan meanwhile back in reality, the US became a net exporter of petroleum products due to the shale and fracking revolution & gas/diesel are still the work horses of transportation EVs have their place for commuting and light duty, so why not both

We think the adoption/transition has been fast in some regions so far, just wait until the ROW jumps on board. Legacy auto has been the main supplier of vehicles in Latin America and Southeast Asia etc. but that period is coming to an end now that cab drivers etc. can buy Chinese EVs. VW, Toyota, GM, Ford, Stellantis etc. are all getting the boot in China and now also ROW (rest of world) too. So, exactly where will these guys sell their ICEs in the future? Their PHEVs are facing the same fate...crashing sales as EVs prove themselves even more. The S Curve is hitting the steep upside now and it is only a matter of time until we start hearing bankruptcy rumors and then the real deal. Sorry all you Rolls Royce fans but you'll only be able to order old ones, no new ones being built!

What's to stop the threat of countries having the technology to shut your electric car off if leaders deem you a threat or you dont go along with lunacy. Whats the solution to that? I have no problem with EV's aside from basic questions. I mean didnt someone in Mitch McConnells family drive their EV into a lake and died mysteriously?

@JessePeltan As soon as we scale up our energy production like China, the EV market will explode even faster. We just need to massively increase energy, especially solar and nuclear.

THIS MAY BE BUT TWO THINGS ARE ALSO TRUE: 1. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A NEED FOR GAS POWERED VEHICLES BECAUSE OF CLIMATE! 2. NEW & MORE SOURCES FOR POWER MUST BE DEVELOPED & IMPLEMENTED TO MEET THE NEED FOR ENERGY!! SOLAR & WIND CANNOT MEET THE NEED!! IMO FUSION AND NUCLEAR MUST BE INVESTED IN HEAVILY TO MEET THESE NEEDS!! AS POTUS IS DOING WITH AI DEVELOPMENT, ALL NEW PLANTS SHOULD HAVE TO INCLUDE POWER SOURCES THAT CAN SHARE EXCESS ENERGY WITH THE REGION!! IMO ALL NEW OIL DRILLING PROJECTS SHOULD HAVE A PERCENTAGE DESIGNATED AS PAYMENT DIRECTLY AGAINST THE NATIONAL DEBT PRINCIPAL!! IMO CONGRESS SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO PASS A DEFICIT SPENDING BILL!! END CONGRESSIONAL BORROWING!! THESE THINGS CAN ALL BE DONE WITH A LITTLE COMMON SENSE & DISCIPLINE!!

Without Tesla nobody else would be making EV. I think Tesla made great advances in all aspects of EVs that competitors are attempting so far unsuccessfully to emulate but will get there eventually. China likely is the best emulator and as a result far ahead of the game. I think that for EVs to got to the next level several things need to happen. More availability of charges on roads and cities. Faster charging batteries Cheaper to replace batteries, or built in modules where you only replaced the failing part, to cost less than 5k for the entire battery, not 15-20k. More independent service centers, some cities have none and that makes people hesitate plus competition is needed or charges will be too high. Liberals need to get off their horse on demonizing Tesla (their “news” organizations) And more variety of vehicles. Compact pickup trucks (Tacoma), vans, full size pickup trucks with flat bed sides for work. Compact cars Real SUV I think the Robotaxi will have many takes but for the reasons mentioned many will stay on the sidelines. That car should have the ability to add steering and controls or remove. And lower prices. I realize that many EVs today are a better value than their gas counterparts on some ways but adoption is not increasing, lower prices could change a lot of minds. Same about the battery replacement cost.

If you have a roof which is able to generate lots of photovoltaic energy and you only have to drive short distances, an EV is a good idea. If you have to drive long distances or you don’t have your own home with a roof suitable for PV, it’s not at all a good idea. So I’m fully against forcing people to buy electric vehicles; it should be an option only.

@JessePeltan The key to this is disposability. None of these EV’s have a ten year lifespan. They’re super cheap and humans go places so. We are one battery evolution away. One technology break thru.
