He claims truth by using a real person to narrate the story and using real-life clips. The documentarian showed clips of a man playing with a child, but did not show real-life clips of the prison environment, which I feel is being representational. #hwa5 #beyondthisplace

So, in 160 characters, it started to wobble when she was able to record her baby, but not when he came to visit? She could have at least blurred his face out if she did not want to show it for privacy reasons. It made me doubt if she was being honest. #hwa5 #thespectrumfallsapart

So Clint Smith staged a truth that forced us to emotionally connect with the people in prison and how they felt. Stan's doc was just raw footage, no editing, just the moth by itself. It staged a truth where you couldn't argue whether it was true or not. #hwa5 #smithandbrakhage

M. Stephenson and B. Foster: For me, this was kind of the furthest away from Reality/Objectivity/Nonfiction. Because we were shown what the documentarian wanted us to see. What if the clips were taken out of context? #hwa5 #thinking

Clint Smith: I would have placed it closer towards Reality/Objectivity/Nonfiction, but after listening to Ashley's take on it. I agree with her, there is no actual footage of prison classrooms, but it still causes us to empathize with them. #hwa5 #thinking

Victoria Mapplebeck: I placed it away from the left end. Initially, I thought it was Reality. Halfway through, I realized there were only clips of her and the child, and there was no raw footage of the man, even once. His presence was solely based on texts #hwa5 #thinking

Hennessy Youngman: Placed him closer towards Reality/Objectivity/Nonfiction because this was unedited raw footage of him just talking. He does not care if the audience agrees or not. He was not trying to persuade anyone. He was speaking on what he feels is Art. #hwa5 #thinking

Stan Brokhage: I placed this closest to Reality/Objectivity/Nonfiction because, despite what I said about, not being able to understand what he was trying to convey. It was reality, just raw clips of moths, no storytelling or anything like that. #hwa5 #thinking

I feel like that emotional manipulation in that doc(160 characters) was another way of diverting me from realizing the fact that they did not show the man or show any justifiable evidence while watching it. #hwa5 #whatdocsdodo

Personally, I felt like the "160 characters" documentary was not trying to inform me, but instead bring out my emotional side. It forced me to sympathize with the mother and child. #hwa5 #whatdocsdo

So to claim truth means to show evidence, which I consider to be real-life clips of the story. Even without sound and special effects, you could understand if something was real based on the image/clips. #hwa5 #whatdocsdo

The documentarian uses real interviews with people to make claims to truth. But we only hear clips of the interviews, we do not know what is left out, so it is still being representational. #hwa5 #aconversationwithwhitepeopleonrace

So for the mothlight doc, the documentarian decides to only go with the images and special effects. No sound, the visual is just sped up #hwa5 #shortdocparty

The documentarian uses special effects when the speaker classifies something as ART or NOT ART.#hwa5 #shortdocparty

The documentarian shows real-life pictures and videos to make claims to truth#hwa5, also they were being representational by deciding not to show the man at all. So we do not know the entire picture; we were forced to portray an image based on texts from him. #hwa5 #160characters

Finally, the documentarian uses special effects, like when the phone buzzing sound means she received a text from J, and also to show that there is life in the womb, he used a heartbeat sound effect #hwa5 #160characters

The documentarian engages with sound by making the narrator speak and narrate the situation. As for images, they use real-life scenes and even images of themselves to show authenticity. #hwa5 #160characters
