Yeah, it was 8-3. So what? That is the team she played for last year, so it was a big deal for her, just like it was a big deal for Berzon to step onto the mound against LSU. And also, at that team, which has won six of the last nine national championships, and whose fans remember Paytn fondly and proudly for a big-time ice-in-the-veins single-batter national championship appearance where she killed an opponent's rally and helped us get that year's natty, she was explicitly taught that in sports as well as in life, you never EVER taunt the other team, but you ALWAYS celebrate anything done well by your teammates or yourself. You find the joy, always, in life and in sports. In a game of failure, you celebrate every success -- and that is part of the Championship Mindset that Patty has taught every young woman in crimson and cream on her way to her eight natties and her 1,601 wins. Paytn got one inning against the best offense in softball -- probably the best offense in softball history -- and against those three batters she pitched like a champion.
