You're looking at the skull that began Mary Anning's career. Found in 1811 by her brother, Mary later found the rest of the skeleton – her first steps as a fossil dealer and palaeontologist. We now know these are ichthyosaur bones – find out about them this #FossilFriday (1/6)

A nice Captorhinus jaw fragment from the Richards Spur/Fort Sill Early Permian fissure fill deposits of Oklahoma. Just one of many pieces from that site in the @PerotMuseum collection. #FossilFriday

The findings, which published February 19 in the journal Science, suggest that the prehistoric creature is a close relative of Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, a giant fish-eating dinosaur with a sail across its back, first described in 1915 by German paleontologist Ernst Stromer von Reichenbach. cnn.it/4cW5GHB

Fresh off the press: wherein Alyssa Williams and team (myself included) describe the bone microhistology of Albertosaurus: nature.com/articles/s4159… (This is the same "problematic" juvenile specimen I co-described several years ago.) #CMNPalaeo

I love that these buck toothed/beaked weirdos are getting some solid representation all of a sudden iirc their last paleomedia appearance before this year was in 'Dinosaurs!' 1992, so 34 years ago

#TheDinosaurs and #PrehistoricPlanet are nice but what we REALLY need is a properly done 2-d animated palaeo-documentary in the style of the 1992 PBS "The Dinosaurs!" There are interactions and camera movements you can do with cel animation that 3D still can't replicate!

A new gorgonopsian genus is just born: Jirahgorgon. #FossilFriday Jirahgorgon is from the middle Permian but rivals the late Permian rubidgeins in bulk. Its sabre-like canines are super-sharp and laterally compressed, even for gorgonopsian standards! anatomypubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ar…
