They were offered ₦100 million to ignore the crime, but they refused. Think about that for a moment. On April 9, 2026, officers from the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (STS) stopped a trailer truck in Akwanga, Nasarawa State. Hidden under sacks of groundnut shells were 60 tonnes of stolen railway tracks and sleepers. This stolen infrastructure, worth over ₦400,000,000, belonged to the Nigerian people. Two suspects were arrested: Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22. The truck driver was paid ₦2,500,000 to transport the stolen materials from Bauchi State to Ilorin. This was the work of an organized syndicate, a planned supply chain, and a direct attack on Nigeria's national infrastructure. Then came an offer of ₦100,000,000 in cash to let the suspects go and walk away. The officers refused. It was not because they did not need the money, but because true integrity, even when it is difficult, cannot be bought.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, personally praised all the officers involved. He said their courage and honesty show the Nigeria Police Force at its very best. To those officers: you were offered a fortune to break your oath, but you chose to stand by Nigeria. This is the kind of Nigeria Police Force our nation deserves, and it is real.

NPF FOILS RAILWAY VANDALISM SYNDICATE, RECOVERS ₦400 MILLION ASSETS, OPERATIVES REJECT ₦100 MILLION BRIBE The Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), has recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of two (2) suspects involved in the large-scale vandalisation of critical national infrastructure and the recovery of railway materials valued at over Four Hundred Million Naira (₦400,000,000). The suspects, Chisom Goodnews (32) and Ahmed Adamu (22), were arrested on 9th April 2026 at about 1800hrs in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence. The operation led to the interception of a trailer truck conveying approximately sixty (60) tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers. The materials were concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in a deliberate attempt to evade detection while being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the truck was contracted for the sum of Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2,500,000) to transport the vandalised materials, while further findings indicate an organised supply chain linked to receivers of such stolen infrastructure. During the investigation, the operatives involved in the operation reportedly rejected an offer of One Hundred Million Naira (₦100,000,000) made in a bid to compromise the process and secure the release of the suspects and exhibits. The trailer truck used in conveying the items has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the intended receivers, and to recover additional exhibits. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commends the operatives for their courage, discipline, and incorruptibility, noting that such acts exemplify the core values of the Force. The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s assets from vandalism. Alleged corruption: Ijaw women seek fair hearing for Alison-Madueke The trial of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, over corruption allegations, came to the fore in Abuja on Monday again as Ijaw women kicked against what they described as her “trial in the court of public opinion” while legal proceedings were ongoing. The Ijaw women stated that while they would not defend the former minister over whatever offences Alison-Madueke might have been accused of, it was only fair to ask that the legal processes be followed through and a judgment be passed appropriately, as against the growing trend of public trial or “sensationalisation” of the issues in Nigeria. The women, speaking under the aegis of Ijaw Women Advocates for Justice, told a news conference in Abuja that “justice must be done properly, lawfully and without prejudice.” A former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr Timiebi Koripamo-Agary, who spoke on behalf of the women, explained that the group was not out to defend Alison-Madueke but rather to oppose condemning her before her court processes were concluded. She stated, “We are not here to defend or condemn any individual. We are here to defend the principle. “The ongoing proceedings in the United Kingdom must remain exactly what they are: a judicial process, not a public spectacle. “We reject the growing tendency to try individuals in the court of public opinion while legal processes are still underway. That path undermines justice itself. “Every individual, regardless of position, past office, or public perception is entitled to fair hearing, due process (and) the presumption of innocence. These are not privileges, they are rights.” The Nigerian Tribune recalls that the former minister is currently facing a bribery trial at the Southwark Crown Court in London on six counts of bribery and “conspiracy to commit bribery.” According to prosecutors from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), she allegedly abused her official position between 2010 and 2015 to push huge oil and gas contracts to specific business interests in exchange for financial rewards and cash payments of about £100,000 ($137,000). Other allegations included extensive shopping for luxury goods at high-end retailers like Harrods; the use of chauffeur-driven cars; private jet travel; the use of multiple luxury properties in London and Buckinghamshire, including funding for their maintenance and refurbishment. When convicted under the United Kingdom’s (UK) anti-bribery law, the former minister is liable to a jail term of up to 10 years in addition to fines. However, Alison-Madueke has pleaded not guilty to the charges in her court appearances so far. Other notable names at the news conference were Dame Julie Donli, Princess Rosemary John-Oduone, Honourable Stella Ayamara Dorgu, and Chief Duenize Ogon.
