We show that all the studied bipyridine complexes are not stable enough for flow battery applications, as they undergo dimerization reactions upon oxidation to Fe(III). We demonstrate that cyclic voltammetry can be useful for evaluating the stability of the Fe(III) species.

Our collaborative work with Prof. Elzbieta Frackowiak @PUT_Poznan on Molten salt carbon felt oxidation for VRFB electrode performance improvement is out in Carbon: doi.org/10.1016/j.carb… Our part was to develop the measurement system to evaluate overpotetials during operation.
