#Bitcoin-centric crypto assets are set to become an integral part of the mature financial market. The vast majority—around 95%—of investors will stick to Bitcoin as their primary asset. But even if just 5% move on-chain to explore, it still represents a massive new wave of adoption. 🚀Assets built on the SRC-101 format for .btc will only gain more recognition over time, thanks to full support for all Bitcoin address types, truly decentralized asset ownership and functionality, and native resolvability.

This follows a different model compared to chains with smart contracts. Since there are no smart contracts, we adopt a novel asset minting approach to generate assets—similar to how one would mint native Stamps or BRC-20 assets. Once an asset is minted, we have no control over it. However, based on the SRC-101 asset format, a receiving address can be set at the time of deployment. This is the only aspect at the asset format level that is related to the Bitname team. The second key distinction from BRC-20 and SRC-20 assets is that SRC-101 introduces a binding field between addresses and assets. This enables the most crucial resolution function for native Bitcoin Layer 1 domain services. Importantly, this functionality is not controlled or managed by Bitname—anyone can resolve SRC-101 assets using Stampchain’s open-source API. In our view, native Bitcoin Layer 1 domain assets must meet at least three criteria: 1.Support for all Bitcoin address types. 2.Be resolvable and usable. 3.Ensure true decentralization in both asset type and functionality.

As we worked on implementing bidirectional resolution for #domain and address binding using the “data embedding + open-source indexer” approach, it got us thinking about how smart contracts, while simplifying the compilation process, can also open up too many opportunities for bad actors to exploit. On the other hand, the #Bitcoin network, which lacks smart contracts, might actually be more secure in this aspect, with no authorization and no backdoors.
