.005” is a big difference in hook diameter. The Mustad is much less expensive, but IMO, will not consistently handle the big Great Lake smallies.

For all you NED rig users who are either pouring or buying your heads, here’s a comparison of a couple 1/0 hooks. Top hook is a 5313 Owner (the best Ned hook IMO). Bottom is Mustad 32500. Owner is from .042” wire, Mustad is .037”. The Mustad isn’t nearly as sharp as the Owner.

Does anyone have good reports of smallies being schooled up and biting on Erie (south side of lake) ? Planning on a midweek trip if weather holds.

Which is good for the fish. I’ve recently started using the Trapper hook and I’m pretty impressed at how well it sticks the fish. It does require more effort to remove than the G hook, but nothing that would suggest the fish are harmed. That’s my take on it .. 💪
