Road trip starting tomorrow 🚗 I'm driving 600 km to go to a bakery 😆 (Well, there will be birding too, of course.) The bakery is the famous outback bakery at historic Farina which is supposed to be excellent. It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll 🎶 😁

❤️SHE MATTERS: NUNIA KURUALEBA❤️ Just hours after she posted a happy photo on social media, 21-year-old Nunia Kurualeba was stabbed to death at her home in Kingswood, NSW. Her male partner is now charged with her murder. Nunia is the 49th Australian woman killed this year. All but one of these women have allegedly been murdered by males - and almost all knew their killers. With 49 femicides in the past seven months, Australia is well and truly on track to eclipse the number of women killed last year and also in previous years. Domestic violence and associate violence continue to be the main context behind the killing of women in Australia but it does have to be noted stranger murders have also climbed this year. Just months ago, we saw a male murder multiple women at Bondi Junction and we heard our leaders crow about how they planned to see change happen. Sadly that change is moving at a glacial pace and women like Nunia are paying the heaviest of prices. RIP Nunia Kurualeba! ❤️ ❤️Australian Femicide Watch: TheREDHEARTCampaign.org ❤️The Memorial to Women and Children Lost to Violence: TheREDHEARTCampaign.org ❤️The Australian Femicide & Child Death Map: bit.ly/red-hearts I document ALL unlawful deaths of women and children, regardless of perpetrator gender or relationship between the person killed and the accused. This means not every death is due to domestic and family violence. Australians are also killed by strangers, friends, colleagues, neighbours and other people known to them. My brain's not been well in the last week, depression & anxiety have been winning, so in an attempt to bring it some dopamine & lower its stress hormone levels and to do the same for your brain as you scroll by, here are some floral finds from the garden in July:

Cyndi Lauper going to the US Senate to change a law that allowed homeless shelters to deny someone a bed based on their sexuality is the most rock star thing I've seen a rock star do.

This from AGL boss (AGL owns Loy Yang) “As the owner of these sites, nuclear energy is not a part of these plans. There is no viable road map for the development of nuclear energy in Australia -the cost, build time & public opinion are all prohibitive” theaustralian.com.au/business/renew…

Things we don't know about the Coalition's nuclear delay tactics: 1. The cost 2. Where the $ would come from 3. Where waste would go 4. Whether the plants are feasible 5. How states will be convinced 6. Who will pay the price of higher bills 7. What impacted communities think 😬

Australia’s biggest touchpoint with modern slavery is in the products we import. Imported electronics, garments, solar panels, textiles and seafood are at risk of being produced with modern slavery. Check out our blog post here beslaveryfree.com/articles-blogs…

Sadly we just missed out on funding to start Australia’s first National Indigenous Psychology Treatment Centre. This was our best opportunity to close the gap. We will now try and fundraise for it. More to come soon. It’s gut wrenching.
