NEW @citizenlab report We uncover two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns. The findings expose how surveillance vendors exploit the global telecom ecosystem to conduct covert location tracking operations that can persist undetected for years. citizenlab.ca/research/uncov…

Amal Khalil is the latest journalist to be killed by Israeli forces, this time in a double strike while she was on assignment in southern Lebanon. Israeli forces then fired on rescue workers who were trying to reach her. An outrage. cpj.org/2026/04/cpj-ca…

Han convertido a los mareros tatuados en un show. Por suerte hay muchísimo periodismo que los pone en su lugar: criminales despiadados, pero también socios de políticos desde hace 14 años, pero también socios de Bukele durante sus ocho años de ascenso al poder total.

. @theintercept & @nickturse reporting CIA agents killed in Mexico "are among the first known fatalities of President Donald Trump’s expanding drug war in Latin America." Great scoop, but at least 180 ppl have been killed in boat strikes, plus 80-100 in Vz invasion...

My story on the CIA agents who joined Sunday's drug raid in Mexico: CIA agents joined state officials on two other raids since Jan. Four CIA agents, not two, took part in Sunday’s raid They wore Chihuahua state investigator uniforms to blend in latimes.com/world-nation/s…

The FBI looked into investigating a journalist for stalking because she reported on Kash Patel’s use of taxpayer resources in support of his girlfriend. The free press won’t be intimidated by such crude inquiries but it is another disturbing overreach. nytimes.com/2026/04/22/us/…

In 2018, @jayhweaver & I wrote lack of US drugs busts in #Haiti. FBI agent in #JovenelMoise trial just testified he told informant Pretel to 'Stay the F out of Haiti," & unless drugs on Miami cargo boat they don' t want to know bc can't work it due to rampant corruption in govt.

Bad Practice is a finalist for the 2026 Nonprofit News Awards (@INN), shortlisted in both the Best Investigative Journalism and Journalism Collaboration of the Year categories. news.inn.org/2026-innys-fin… A collaboration coordinated by OCCRP, Norway’s VG (@VG) and the U.K.’s The Times (@thetimes) with 45+ media outlets, the project exposed systemic failures that allowed doctors who have lost their medical licenses due to major wrongdoing — including sexual assault and botched medical treatments — to relocate and practice in different countries. Bad Practice couldn’t have happened without the indispensable work of our media partners, whose expertise helped identify more than 100 doctors banned in one country but licensed in another, still just the “tip of the iceberg.” You can read the full investigation here: occrp.org/en/project/bad…

We can't list everything wrong with this lawsuit but here's one: Patel says The Atlantic should have filed FOIAs before reporting. The FBI’s average FOIA response time is two years.
U.S. Press Freedom Tracker@uspresstracker

FBI director Kash Patel sued @theatlantic and reporter @S_Fitzpatrick in federal court today for allegedly defaming him in an article that quotes sources calling his excessive drinking and unexplained absences from office a national security vulnerability. pressfreedomtracker.us/all-incidents/…

@adamsteinbaugh Having to wake the FBI director from a drunken stupor using SWAT breaking-in tools is implausible because it's not normally the FBI's job to have to wake up its director because he's too shitfaced to come to the door. That's what they're going with.

President Sheinbaum said today the Mexican federal government was unaware that Chihuahua state officials were working closely with US agencies. I'm skeptical that the Mexican federal government was unaware. I visited Chihuahua last October and state officials made no secret about their close collaboration with CBP, the DEA, HSI, FBI, ATF and State Dept INL. @LuisKuryaki is reporting that the two US officials who died yesterday were CIA employees. Chihuahua state officials are building a massive surveillance tower in Ciudad Juárez. Chihuahua officials frequently share intelligence with the Mexican National Guard, SEMAR, SEDENA, as well as US agencies, as I reported for @restofworld and @typeinvestigate this month. None of the information about Chihuahua's collaboration with the US govt was told to me off-the-record or on-background — in fact, they were proud of their work with US agencies... restofworld.org/2026/mexico-se…

🚨Two CIA employees died yesterday morning in Chihuahua after dismantling one of Mexico’s biggest drug labs. The question is: why were they embedded on the ground in Mexico?
