🎚️ 3 most important vocal compression techniques. 1. Serial Compression Instead of relying on one compressor to handle the entire dynamic range, use two ones in series. Start with a fast compressor like 1176, Distressor or digital like Pro C. Follow up with a smooth, slower compressor to control remaining dynamics naturally. Like LA-2A, STA-Level or CL 1B. Using that approach, you can achieve rich sound with full control. 2. Parallel Compression Blend heavily compressed vocals with the uncompressed signal to retain natural dynamics while enhancing presence and sustain. Use fast compressors, like 1176 for the compressed signal to add grit and density. 3. Sidechain Compression If your vocals compete with other elements like guitars or synths or even a reverb, a modern compressor can help to subtly and very precisely “duck” these elements when the vocals are active. It’s great if you will use a multiband or spectral compression for this. @natemixing
