Strong's sentencing hearing is expected to take two days and is scheduled for April 21 and April 22.

Di Luca has found Strong guilty of first-degree murder in Rori Hache's death and guilty of manslaughter in the death of Kandis Fitzpatrick.

"He probably did (intend to kill Fitzpatrick)," Di Luca said. "But probably is not the test."

He said the Crown has not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Strong had the intention of killing Fitzpatrick, only that he unlawfully caused her death.

Strong also told the detective that he doesn't think "he would have continued" if he hadn't been arrested.

When discussing serial killers with the detective, Strong says he "gladly would have flown under the radar for the rest of his life."

Strong calls the knife with her DNA on it "damning evidence" and told officers that lying about killing or raping a woman is something he would reasonably be prepared to do as a matter of self-preservation.

Di Luca says comments Strong made to police after his arrest suggest he is responsible for Fitzpatrick's unlawful death.

Di Luca says he believes the dismemberment of Fitzpatrick was done to cover up an unlawful act. It is unlikely, he said, that Strong would dismember her to cover up an accidental or otherwise innocent death.

Di Luca says he is satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that Fitzpatrick was killed in some unlawful fashion by Strong.

Di Luca says the defence accepts that the Crown has proven that Strong dismembered Kandis Fitzpatrick with the Wyoming knife.

Di Luca said Hache may have initially have been engaged in a consensual sex act but it became non-consensual the moment the beating began.

Di Luca said Hache's reproductive organs were not only removed, they were dissected, examined and then destroyed. The dismemberment, he said, was done in part to obscure her cause of death.

Di Luca said he believes Strong and Hache engaged in a sex act immediately prior to her death. DNA and semen was found in what was left in her vagina and anal cavities, the judge said.
