@lycoRhythm Yes it was a Prohibition Era term for empty liquor bottles and applied to the party after Worldcon 1939, the first 3 day fan convention. Since then it stuck as a term to refer to the last staff party of the con, and the name carried to the last events at con like dead dog dance.

Parties have been a thing since the first cons in the 1930s. The room party floor culture is a big part of the convention tradition, where new types of cons, like furry cons, were born. FC & TFF used to be big party cons, just unfortunate the hotels are changing tune on parties.

I think people assume since I am a more well known dealer I get into every furry con, but that is not the case, in fact with more applicants every year it actually is getting harder to get into cons. Here are some of the cons I applied to the last 5 years and acceptance rates.

One of the first set of pages I drew with when testing out the idea for Wrath of Con. I wanted to highlight Warren Fitzgerald, first president of the Scienceers. Members believed he was the first black science fiction fan. Later a founding member of the American Rocket Society.

Funny story about this. The only reason why the "Adventurer's Guild" trope exists is due to the video game Wizardry. Fantasy in Japan was not introduced through novels like Lord of the Rings or Conan. It was video games like Wizardry, which became a major inspiration for Dragon's Quest and Final Fantasy. In Wizardry, you didn't have a set party. You created your own characters and death was permanent, so it wasn't uncommon to create new characters. Swapping and "grinding" were essential aspects of the game. Before you went to the dungeon, you were town where you level up, get items, create new characters, and swap characters. Where did you swap characters? Adventurer's Guild. So now you know why this trope seems to be every anime. It's based on a video game in the 80s that still sways influence today.
