One of the great things about learning another language at school is that passing an exam is not the be all & end all. Regardless, it will open your mind, connect you with new people, pique your curiosity, introduce you to new cultures, & elevate your experiences. We all benefit.

Bought a box of scrumptuous handmade cakes from Maria the nun at a convent in Osuna, Andalucía. Quite literally one of Spain's sweetest traditions. 🇪🇦🍰😋

Another @DunfermlineHS PE legend retires 🎉 After 3️⃣5️⃣ years, it is time for Mr Garry to say his goodbyes to DHS 🥹 A driving force over the years for DHS rugby 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦 He will be missed by all in the DHS community - we wish him a very happy & healthy retirement 💛🖤

We also challenged our S2s to create a European dish to celebrate European Day of Languages. We've so enjoyed tasting some of the delicious food many S2s brought in. Judging the winner will be tough! Here are some examples of what was made:

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting guest teachers from @jpflondon and the University of Edinburgh who came to our Department to teach groups of our new S2s some Japanese. 🇯🇵🗾

When a language course disappears, so do the chances for students to see the world differently, connect more deeply and understand life beyond our borders. It's not just a loss to academia - it's lesser experiences, quieter voices, narrower minds. Languages make lives richer.

#WhyLearnGerman? Experts say that 𝗱𝘆𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 should be learning languages. German is a "transparent language" with clear letter-sound correspondence, making reading & spelling easier. German sounds are very close to English & there are many shared words! 💡
