#ThrowbackThursday The Delaware River flood of 1903 caused great damage to the D&R Canal. This photo shows repairs being made to the guard lock at Bulls Island. The tall, wooden mast-like structure is a crane that helps lift heavy loads into place for reconstruction. #NewJersey

#ThrowbackThursday This view of the D&R Canal was taken from a boat entering Lock 10, south of Zarephath, NJ. It was nicknamed ‘Ten Mile’ Lock because it was approximately 10 miles from the canal’s end at New Brunswick. Near this point, the Millstone joins the Raritan River.
