FACT CHECK: Igini’s claim incorrect. Ballot paper validation in Electoral Act 2026 existed in 2022 law Mike Igini, a former resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has claimed that the Electoral Act 2026 contains a new provision granting presiding officers the discretion to accept or reject ballot papers that do not bear the official mark prescribed by the electoral body. THE CLAIM Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Wednesday, Igini said section 63 of the Electoral Act 2026, which deals with ballot papers, grants excessive discretion to presiding officers. A presiding officer, better known as a PO, is the primary election official responsible for managing a polling station on election day. thecable.ng/fact-check-igi… #FactCheck

@militaryblower @GRVlagos That's so true. He probably hailed Otti when he introduced exactly the same exercise in Abia but he has to antagonise everything LASG is doing just to be seen as a "credible opposition".

Shutting down a city of 20 million people to clean their immediate environment is parochial and lacks imagination. For emphasis: the issue is not so much about cleaning your environment (which is great) but the logistics of waste management - starting from the collection, to disposal and recycling. Anything short of rethinking this system is cosmetic and unimaginative.
Tokunbo Wahab@tokunbo_wahab

Tomorrow morning between 6:30am and 8:30am, we begin a new chapter in our collective journey toward a cleaner Lagos. The monthly environmental sanitation exercise returns, and I am calling on every resident to come out and participate actively. Let me address the confusion some have tried to create. No court pronouncement has invalidated this exercise. The State proceeded to the Court of Appeal, and judgment was delivered in our favour. The Court affirmed that the laws used for the implementation and enforcement of environmental sanitation are legitimate and constitutional. So disregard those who choose to mislead the public. We have planned this for over a year. We have thought it through. We cannot keep complaining about dirty surroundings and blaming government while shirking our own responsibilities. The care of our environment is a collaborative project between government and citizens. Major transport unions controlling about 90% of vehicles on our roads have pledged not to deploy their vehicles from major parks during the sanitation window. If government vehicles are staying put, what will it cost us to stay home for just two hours to clean our environment? We are not unreasonable. Exceptions exist for emergencies, scheduled flights, and students writing JAMB exams. LAWMA has been fully mobilized to evacuate waste generated. Environmental health officers will monitor properties, and defaulters will be served abatement notices. Tomorrow, let us show Lagos and the world that we are ready to take ownership of our environment. Two hours. One Saturday each month. A cleaner, healthier, flood-free Lagos for all of us. #LagosSanitationExercise #CleanerLagos

@GRVlagos let me respectfully disagree. Shutting down a city of over 20 million people is not what we are doing. We are asking residents to dedicate one hundred and twenty minutes, once every thirty days, to clean their immediate surroundings. That is not a shutdown. That is called taking responsibility. I agree completely that waste management logistics, from collection to disposal to recycling, are critical. That is why we have spent the past year strengthening those very systems. We have banned single use plastics, we are converting Olusosun landfill to energy, we are deploying biogas facilities in our markets, we are partnering with Lafarge to turn waste into valuable resources, and we are empowering young innovators with technology to improve sanitation access. These are not cosmetic actions. They are structural changes to how Lagos manages waste. But here is what I also know. No system of waste management, no matter how sophisticated, will succeed if citizens refuse to take basic responsibility for their environment. You cannot complain about flooding while dumping refuse in drains. You cannot demand a cleaner city while sweeping waste into the road. You cannot blame government for a dirty environment when you are unwilling to clean the front of your own house. The monthly sanitation exercise is not a substitute for systemic reform. It is a complement to it. It is about rebuilding a culture of environmental stewardship that has been lost over time. Technology and infrastructure alone cannot save a city whose people have abandoned personal responsibility. We welcome objective criticism that offers solutions. But dismissing a civic exercise as unimaginative, while offering no alternative path to citizen participation, does not move us forward. #LagosSanitationExercise

Receipts don't lie. Back in 2022, we had to crowdfund ₦60k to save a classmate’s education. He was a final-year student with nowhere else to turn, and no one from his family was able or willing to support him. It’s easy to talk down on @NELFUND when you’ve never had to beg your secondary school mates just to finish your degree. President Tinubu @officialABAT has created a system that solves a problem which has humiliated Nigerian students for decades. Stop the selective amnesia. Some of you mocking this have siblings and friends quietly benefiting from it. For many, this isn’t politics; it’s a lifeline.

This is very good news. Civil Servants (people who work in Ministries, not public servants in agencies) have worked for years earning very low pay and virtually no benefits. Other than joining NLC general strikes, I don’t remember them ever going on strike for their own pay and benefits. The Monetisation Policy of 2003 and the subsequent Sale of Government Houses meant that most of them could no longer afford to live in town. Many moved to neighbouring states and commute daily from there, spending most of the meager salaries on transportation. The restoration of Gratuity payments and the help with home ownership are the biggest deals in this announcement. Through this too, we will stop the nonsense that you can’t get an allowance if your event is in the FCT but will get it if you just take it to a border town in Nassarawa or Niger state where most civil servants live anyway. 🙄 Well done to President Tinubu for approving these benefits and to Mrs Esther Didi Wilson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, for advocating for them.

NEWS FLASH! President Bola Tinubu has approved the following: * Exit Benefit Scheme (EBS) * Employee Compensation Scheme * 100% Duty Tour Allowance for Training * Review and Increase in Peculiar Allowance and * ₦10 Billion Housing Loan Scheme for Public Servants

This is the reality of many Nigerians for several years, even during periods we were told the country had the "best economy" in Africa, yet we never had a proper social welfare programme or something close to NELFUND which indigent students can leverage on.
OLADEPO Caleb Olugbenga@YhungProf0

Amid the flood of felicitations following my convocation as Overall Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, I find it necessary to address the stir around my NELFUND appreciation post. I accept the praise, life changing offers and the backlash, in good faith. Still, it is only fair to set the record straight. I hail from a village in Osun State, raised in a modest family of five. I attended public primary and secondary schools, not by choice, but because even the most inexpensive private schools were beyond our means. Even then, survival itself; food and clothing was a daily struggle. I walked miles to school each morning, while my parents laboured as jacks-of-all-trades to make ends meet. For nine defining years before I entered university, we lived within sight of basic amenities yet beyond our reach, no electricity, no television; just lanterns and candles. Against these odds, I earned a scholarship and now this distinction. In my third year, a coursemate’s father, someone I had once tutored academically, gifted me my first smartphone which I am still using till now. On several occasions, lecturers, moved by quiet compassion, provided me with clothing. There are many other instances, too numerous to recount. So, I say this plainly, not all of us are born with a silver spoon. Some of us climbed the ladder by holding on to every rung of legitimate support we could find. As an engineering student aspiring to make academic history, should I resort myself to blaming my family’s financial situation for my inability to afford fees and essentials like a reliable smartphone or laptop needed for skills and certifications? For me personally, NELFUND was not incidental; it was instrumental and to acknowledge what helped one’s journey is neither propaganda nor misplaced allegiance. It is simply an act of appreciation. Thank you @NELFUND and everyone that contributed to this success! Greatness awaits all of Us.

In Resignation Letter, Adelabu Recommends Creation Of Coordinating Minister For Energy The Minister of Power,  Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has formally tendered his resignation and proposed the establishment of a Coordinating Minister for Energy to drive integrated reforms across Nigeria’s power, gas, and related sectors. In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adelabu stated that his resignation will take effect on April 30, 2026, to enable him to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State. He, however, emphasised that sustaining and consolidating the gains recorded in the power sector requires stronger coordination at the highest level, including the appointment of a central authority to harmonise policy direction and execution. Game on.

MILITARY DESTROYS ISWAP WATERWAY LOGISTICS NETWORK IN DEVASTATING PRECISION STRIKES, NEUTRALISES SCORES IN LAKE CHAD Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in sustained offensive operations conducted in the night of 21/22 April 2026, delivered devastating precision air strikes that dismantled ISWAP terrorist logistics networks along the Lake Chad waterways around the Kaniram Island axis in Northern Borno State. Acting on credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) inputs, OPHK air assets established persistent overhead presence and confirmed the concentration of over 30 terrorist boats and associated terrorist elements coordinating movement and resupply activities. Target validation and positive identification were carefully achieved, ensuring high targeting fidelity prior to engagement. Following deliberate confirmation in line with Rules of Engagement, OPHK executed well-coordinated precision strikes that destroyed several boats and disrupted the terrorists’ logistics hub. This immediately degraded their mobility and ability to sustain operations. Real-time ISR enabled rapid follow-on strikes on fleeing and regrouping elements within nearby vegetation, leading to the neutralisation of over 30 terrorists. Surviving elements were observed escaping in disarray, reflecting a breakdown in their cohesion and command structure. In a related engagement at Sowolwolo in the Sambisa Forest axis, additional precision guided strikes was conducted following target fidelity acquisition with Partners. The strike took out 3 terrorist Gun trucks and neutralised more terrorists within the vicinity. Battle Damage Assessment (BDA), supported by post-strike intelligence, confirmed significant enemy losses, with evidence of mass burial activities especially by ISWAP elements in the Mallam Fatori axis further underscoring the scale of attrition inflicted. Ground forces are currently exploiting the effects of these strikes to dominate adjoining areas and prevent any reconstitution by fleeing elements. These operations highlight OPHK’s sustained offensive pressure and effective air–land integration in dismantling terrorist networks, degrading their capabilities, and denying them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area. The Military High Command commends troops for the impressive battle performance and urged them to sustain aggressive operations to dominate the battlespace. OPHK will continue to maintain relentless pressure on all terrorist elements until they are decisively defeated. SANI UBA Lieutenant Colonel Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force. There is no iota of sense in this tweet, I am sorry to say. AD as a political group became AC, before 2015, AC underwent a reform, there was collation with other political party, that was what gave birth to APC, the brain behind that reform is the one you're referring to as political ashawo ? You must be delusional. You want to compare him with the man that move from APGA, to PDP to LP to ADC ? He is planning to leave ADC ooo, are you aware ? Within the space of 12years. The more you speak the less chances your candidate has to become the president.

this campaign of calumny against Tunde O is lazy at best. not everyone has the luxury of alignment. some people do work that cuts across divides - work that may collapse the moment it’s seen as partisan. in that position, neutrality is not cowardice; it’s a requirement for the work to survive and achieve its objectives. “but he has taken a side”. meanwhile, it’s a picture with the president of his country. an honorary ambassadorship from his state. opportunity to speak with young people (his primary target) at an event - organized by the president’s son. guess who else has a picture with the president. guess who else is a sports ambassador for Ogun state. guess who else was invited to speak at that event (Tunde didn’t even attend) that people are not dragging. what are we doing? if you’re doing impactful work, people across political divides will court you. people across the world will court you. you will be in rooms with people you like and those you loathe. and for the sake of the work, you will chest it. because the work is bigger than your personal politics. and the idea that he needs Nigeria to stay bad so he can have more slum kids is … laughable. his work isn’t about preserving slums. it’s about developing people - through chess - discipline, how they think, opportunity, etc. that doesn’t disappear if things improve. and no matter who the president is, Nigeria will never run out of underserved communities. infact, the world will never run out of it. you’re forcing politics on something that isn’t built for it. and judging a constraint you don’t carry. if you think you’d do it differently, oya do it. build something impactful, take your stance, and sustain it. until then, it’s just noise. lazy noise. 🙂‍↔️
