What can we do to narrow the S-P gap? (1) Encourage research funding/focus on smaller, less charismatic species, (2) Do threat-addressing science, (3) We found that when government scientists are included on publications they are more likely to be cited, so collaborate!

Another key barrier to science is uptake, where we found relevant, threat-addressing science was only cited 1/3 of the time in federal recovery planning documents for endangered species (6 of 7)

Inspired by hearing of a tenured professor leaving academia because her science wasn't having an impact, we sought to investigate how often peer-reviewed science really made it into endangered species conservation (2 of 7) nature.com/articles/d4158…
