POTUS is messing with them. He wants them all pointing fingers and blaming each other. I don't doubt Trump has already made up his mind with what's about to happen. You don't send in that many assets and thousands of marines just to have them sitting around. Same with the Strait of Hormuz, it's just vital to let maritime traffic pass unfettered. Sit back strap in and enjoy the ride. It'll be a wild one!

I do not believe a deal will be made. The regime is too fractured and radicalised. This seems more like a priming for a larger invasion, maybe involving ground forces. "We tried diplomacy and it failed, so now we need to go in" type of setup.
