🇯🇵In Japan, there’s a black cat Pokémon called Blacky, originally named ‘Blacky’ in Japanese—a mix of ‘black’ and ‘lucky.’ That’s because black cats are often seen as symbols of good luck in Japan. But in America, black cats were traditionally considered unlucky, so the name ‘Blacky’ probably wouldn’t have been received well there, which is why it became Umbreon instead.
