Yo! Say Hello to our second Director, @theodorewitcher. He’s also a writer and producer on Demascus. You may know him as thee man who wrote and directed a “little” film called LOVE JONES. We’re very lucky.

"Demascus" highlights the comedy and drama of black double consciousness and explores the gulf between black men.

The sci-fi and technology allows us to go deeper into one man’s psyche and gives a sandbox to play to create worlds/reality that push the character forward or lead him to take two steps back.

The sci-fi of it all…

We're looking at early 2023. That's all we know, for now.

But the years have seen him shrinking. Becoming quieter, meeker, and more resigned-- But if he’s not the person he thinks he is (or was) then who is he? So at 33, he’s having an identity crisis. The series will follow his odd journey toward self-discovery.

He’s Black. And a man. He’s a black man. And that’s the issue. He doesn’t quite know what that means anymore. He’s generally misunderstood by others. He’s fine with that, their approximation of who he is good enough.

Some thoughts about Demascus, the character and the series. He’s 33 which means it’s his Jesus Year. He lives in a gentrifying DC neighborhood. However, he’s probably more like the gentrifiers than the folks being pushed out. He’s very corporate.

But he takes pride in the fact that his one overarching characteristic is that he’s essentially being unknowable. But somewhere in the guesstimates of those around him, he lost track of who he was for his damn self. He once thought of himself as a brave and outgoing person.

Martin Lawrence joins the cast as Demascus’ quick-tempered Uncle Forty, a man who has seen better days. Despite his failing health, Uncle Forty is eager to be acknowledged as the (currently self-proclaimed) patriarch of the family.

Shakira Ja'nai Paye (All Day and a Night, House Party) as Naomi, an alluring performer who captures Demascus' heart and imagination during a chance meeting; she's a haunting missed connection and he can't stop wondering: "what if?"
