If you’re a Military Veteran there is NO WAY you should be voting for @UKLabour in the local elections. Unless you’re an MP of course they have no integrity or moral courage. This country has spiralled under the last 2 governments and needs a reset. But voting Labour is madness.

A masked colour party has marched to the city cemetery in Derry during an Easter commemoration. Several youths have been posing for pictures with petrol bombs in the cemetery. In the past few moments, a male has stopped youths from setting a car alight. @BelTel [Pictures by Presseye / PA]

Today, at the GPO, we gather to mark the anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising and remember those who lost their lives.

I also respectfully disagree with Ray. The Irish government knows that, leaving aside the outcome of a vote in NI, in the Republic there are many who would not vote for a UI if it meant importing a violent minority into our country which would have to be contained by our security forces. Hopefully the British government and people will soon vote to rejoin the EU and an island-wide shared sense of being European (always John Hume's vision) will result in an Agreed Ireland supported by large majorities North and South. Meanwhile, let's keep engaging in community-wide conversations along the lines encouraged by Sam McBride and Fintan O'Toole in For and Against a United Ireland, and also by Prof Brendan O' Leary in Making Sense of a United Ireland. In any preparation for change there has to be a sense of give and take and those most in favor of a UI should be reaching out to the middle ground in NI and not just playing to their base.

Bound and tortured Palestinian hostages Israel's National Security Minister Ben Gvir: “Do you see them? This is how they are now, but one thing remains to be done and that is to execute them” This is what the US, UK and Europe support:

Duke of Devonshire's exclusive Mayfair bookshop occupied as fury grows over his decision to raise rents to Irish farmers from £500 to £5,000 His ancestors stole this land in 1753; this mad rent rise will force farmers off land that they have cultivated for hundreds of years

British absentee landlords haven't gone away, you know. The Duke of Devonshire (aka Peregrine Andrew Morny Cavendish) is turning the clock back a couple of centuries by imposing a rent rise on farmers in Co Waterford. Well, he is down to his last £910m... thejournal.ie/duke-of-devons…
