3. The correct answer is b) MoM-z14. MoM-z14 has a cosmological redshift of 14.44, meaning that its light has been travelling through (expanding) space, being stretched and “shifted” to longer, redder wavelengths, for about 13.5 of the Universe’s estimated 13.8 billion years of existence. 🛎️ It's quiz time! Webb recently found the earliest supernova yet, the source of a bright flash of light known as a gamma-ray burst. This was generated by an exploding star when the Universe was only 730 million years old.

@loanhong123 Multiple phases of the central star’s death can be identified in this #NIRCam image. The white outer bubble is its initial ejection, mostly of hydrogen. The orange within is heavier material that followed that first outburst.

@ESA_Webb What are the names of the individual galaxies in esawebb.org/images/potm250… ? I wanted to know their mass & redshift, but I can't find any journal publications that use the name SMACSJ0028.2-7537 .

PMR 1 appears to have distinct regions that capture different phases of its evolution: an outer shell of gas (mostly hydrogen) that was blown off first, and an inner cloud (a mix of gases) with more structure. Both the #NIRCam and #MIRI images show a dark lane running vertically through the middle of the nebula, giving it its brain-like appearance of left and right hemispheres. This lane could be related to an outburst or outflow from the central star.

🆕 Webb has examined the Cranium Nebula 👩‍⚕️ The nebula PMR 1 is a cloud of gas and dust created as an aging star expels its outer layers – and it bears an uncanny resemblance to a brain in a transparent skull! 🧠
