Analytics can help enunciate what the eye test says. It’s just not the whole story, ever. Teams have an analytics department, and even then, the eye test leads the way.

xGF is one of the most misused, misunderstood metrics used in hockey in discussing offense. It’s like pointing to +/- alone to refer to great defense. The eye test will always determine more than what the paper or spreadsheet says.

There is a system Michkov has to adjust to. Tortorella allowed much more of a leash than Tocchet, which let him play his game to his strength. That much is fair.

In this instance, calling Cates garbage isn’t accurate either. I would absolutely say that he’s been a standout this season, and no one is talking about it. Is that a hot take? Maybe. The upcoming offseason will determine a lot about Michkov. #Flyers #LetsGoFlyers

@EricReeseFN Talented players have should play with talented players. We saw it with Coots. Putting talented guys w/garbage just to “learn a system” that’s failed for years, it’s an injustice & the reason the flyers always stink.

Agreed. Michkov is by no means a third line RW. He has to learn this system and whatnot, but the reaction that people had in terms of calling him a bust was completely out of pocket. It’s probably a collective worst take on any #Flyers conversation this season. #LetsGoFlyers
